Should Yandle stay or go?

Yandle is one of the best offensive defensemen in the league. His defense is also much better than people give him credit for. He doesn't play a physical game and he isn't very quick, but his positioning isn't bad and he reads the play pretty well. When the team wins the puck in the DZ, he makes himself open and is far more likely to start an attack than turn over the puck. The stats do not lie; he is a clear net positive while bringing unique skills that every team needs.

Since he arrived in Florida we have not had to endure a game without him. Hopefully we won't have to for at least a few years.

Dmen that put up points like he does get paid accordingly.

No he doesn't. He's a pure PP specialist and has to be sheltered more than any other Dman in the league making anything close what he does. Plus he's weak and avoids physical play so you don't really want him in the bottom pairing either. Looks slower too.

Players with his salary should not get cut slack or deserve a grey area. They need to deliver - otherwise the Bob discussion would be mute.

If he cost 2-3 million less, it would be great to keep him as a number 5 or 6 and PP specialist. Also his durability is a factor (not his iron man streak, but it is always a positive when a guy doesn't get hurt on a constant basis). His risk / reward ratio is way too high though for a guy his salary.

Yandle does not carry the team so he is not indespensible. We should not risk losing Gudas for a guy like him. The only reason he is "protected" is his place on the first PP unit.

Plus we have younger faster decently skilled Dmen coming up. He should eventually make room for them.

I find it a horrible thing to see Yands and Strals trying to get us into the zone on the PP. Ek, Weegs, Nuti, Forsling could be so much better at it.

Yes, he does. You can not like him, but don’t be ignorant. He’s #3 overall in points by defenseman for the past 10 years.

So another guy who's fallen off the cliff and is a buyout candidate. Thanks for proving my point lol.

Since I just aced your “test”. Name me a defenseman who is the best shutdown/defensive player in the league while putting up little to no points. Then tell me his salary. K thanks

You can avoid talking about Yandle all you want but in the end Q doesn't like him and the fact that Weegs has to play nearly 30 minutes yesterday even though Yandle is clocking less than 15 min 5v5 should tell you all you need to know. Unless you think you know more than Q.

He sucks everywhere else except on the PP. Can't wait to see him avoiding hits and turning the puck over somewhere else.

So you can’t do it, got it.

Weegar played so much yesterday cuz Juulsen was awful and Gudas was hurt. This isn’t quantum physics.

Between Qs god awful challenge that cost us the game against the Hawks(?) and his playing Bobrovsky, maybe I do know more than him.

A trade in the off-season would have been okay. Now that the team seems to have gelled and things are going well and you can see the chemistry, don’t mess with it. Q is managing Yandle very well.

I've been a long time Yandle defender around here but now that Ekblad really looks like he's coming into his own, combined with Weegar's quiet steadiness, it might be time to move on and hand the reigns of anchoring the defensive corps to the younger generation.

In short, despite his still excellent offensive abilities, his defensive lapses and deficiencies are becoming harder and harder to justify.

Sadly I have not seen Panthers play this season... Jyst horrible as now it would actually make me happy!

But Yandle. I think he is just horrible defenceman. Yes, he can pass on PP and sometimes on even but to many times he fails miserably.
You have to have better d man to tgat spot!!!

I’m not sure who ever wrote the rule that your PP specialist can’t be on the 3rd pairing, or the rule that your 3rd pairing needs to be tough/rough. Why can’t your second pairing be tough/rough? The D-order is about minutes played. The issue is who will play with Yandle? It typically has to be Ekblad.

I really dislike yandle a lot, but I'm leaning towards keeping him at least for the season. My main concern with him was more about his attitude and how that affects the rest of the team. With some new faces and what seems to be a much better culture, I'm fine with having one big clown on the team. He sucks defensively and is soft as shit, but he can be useful on the power play and realistically can't be moved unless we give up something.

After the season, if he can be moved at a reasonable price, I'm all for it.

He needs to go, free up cash for Barkov. Unless we can move Bob. His PP does not make up for his normal play and it will just get worse I imagine.
