So do you think Wheeler or Stas win the Smythe?Wheels has been huge all playoffs. Stastny has scored some incredible timely goals as well. I do agree about Lowry. Laine and Ehlers are both capable of more. I think Tanev has played above expectations as well. Copp is capable of better play though. Armia probably had his best game of the playoffs last night. Buff had some bad games but also some really good ones in series 2.
Scheif or Helle you mean? Maybe Buff?So do you think Wheeler or Stas win the Smythe?
Your such a dreamer Tavares, RNH? That would cost us Trouba. I'd rather Trouba. We don't need big reinforcements if Stas won't resign run with last year's team. Putting up points has never been a problem for this team.Explain to Tavares that we can only afford 7.5m x 3 years. Give him 12m, 9m and 1.5m...he comes out of that contract with 22.5m in his pocket and he is still only 30 years old and the cap is probably pushing 90m. He has just played with Wheeler or Laine as his RWer for the last 3 years and Ehlers or Connor on the left side. Still plenty of time to sign that retirement contract ofter putting up huge numbers with the Jets....ya, ya I know.
Overpay for RNH so they retain salary if Stastny won't re-sign what Chevy offers.
I really think RNH is on the move this summer....
They could use a RHD that can put up some points.
If we have 3 capable centers with Lowry as our 4th, we'd be a nightmare to play against. Stastny is such a nice fit though.
All the more reason to trade him.________________________________________________________
Well, I agree except for Myers -- I believe the Jet's are a loyalty organization, and will want to keep Myers. He's also signed til the end of next year, so I would bet they'll let that contract run it's course. Myer's also scores a lot of points, and that wins games.
lolMyers and Armia for RNH with 1.25m retained on RNH's and Myers' contracts.
Stasny is not an idiot. He not only came here to win but he came here knowing he'd be playing with Laine and Ehlers setting up his next contract.
Little did he know he would be doing it himself not needing them at all. The guy is going to get paid. Even if we could find a way to keep him, teams will give him more and longer then we can or should. We win a cup and it doesn't matter, we both got what we wanted. its all good for both sides.
After reading comments on the Blue's board for 3 hours, right after the trade, here's what the Blue's fans thought of the trade. Generally to my surprise-- they were quite happy with the trade. The reasons for this are as follows. Note before he signed with the Blues, the Avalanche didn't want him at that price.
Firstly Stastny was signed for about $ 7.5 million with St.Louis, and was supposed to be a # 1 center, but he could only slot in as a second line center-- so there was disappointment there.
The fans thought he was rather "slow" and quite often invisible--something like Bryan Little is for the Jets. They also felt he was a good "set up man" and great positional player.
His point production was decent, but they were expecting much more at a price of $ 7.5 mil per year.
Some fans think he may re-sign, but if he does, they want it to be for a lot less money. They said he was very well liked by the players, fans, and management alike.
Why was Stastny traded-- the fans felt that GM -- Armstrong wanted to have Cap room to sign John Tavares, and they needed the Cap room, and extra money to do so.
Reason why Stastny left St.Louis -- well he had a "no move clause" but apparently waived for the Jets because he wanted to win a Stanley Cup, and play with the talented Jets. Also he is very good friends with Wheeler, and played with him before.
Something to note here !!! nearly all Blues fans will be cheering for the Jets in the playoffs-they like the Jets. They are "friendly" and not like the Oiler fans !!!

With this being said, if the Jet's could sign him at 32 years old--and I believe, they will want to, especially with the slow declining play of Bryan Little. The question is -- are you fans in favor of signing Stastny ? when we have a young Roslovic that could slot in at much less money ??? Maybe someone else ???
I'm of the opinion that we should sign him in the $ 4.5 to $ 5 mil tops range but for no more than 3 years, and would love to hear your opinions.
Because he waived to come here -- I think he'd like to stay, as he wants to win the Cup, and he sees all the talent on this young Jet's club. Should we sign this guy at 32 years old ??? He also has played with Wheeler and they are very good friends, so he'll feel at home here.

Do we trade Trouba or Myers for a centre? I can imagine getting a pretty decent one for Trouba.Pretend Jets let Statsny walk after our playoffs are over.
What UFA's are available for next years playoff push and would Chevy be interested in any of them as a Statsny replacement?
Without Stastny we would probably be out of the play offs by now.Your such a dreamer Tavares, RNH? That would cost us Trouba. I'd rather Trouba. We don't need big reinforcements if Stas won't resign run with last year's team. Putting up points has never been a problem for this team.

I've been on the keep Stastny train for awhile now. It's going to be very tough to get him back in a Jets uniform this off season. Though not impossible. Some short term bridge deals and likely having to move two of Myers, Perreault or Mason would give us a lot of breathing room. The only issue is the term can't be too high. We only need him for another two years. But with how his dad talked about St. Louis it doesn't seem like he's to keen to go back there.

______________________________________________________What makes you think we only need him for 2 years? Our need is until we get a replacement. Or are you suggesting that he only has 2 good years left?
Myers, Perreault and Mason have to go if we don't keep Stastny but sign Morrissey, Connor and Laine long term. They do not buy room for Stastny. He might just possibly become an option if we bridge everybody but Laine.
Most of the options in this poll can be thrown out because there is no way Stastny accepts the numbers. Of course none of us knows what it will take but we can probably guess some minimums.
Unfortunately his success since being acquired is increasing his UFA value. I think it will take a minimum of 4 years. JMO, nothing in particular to back it up but I can't see him taking any less than that. I also think it will take between 5 & 6 mil AAV, probably closer to 6. If we could get him for 4x5.25 he would be doing us a favour.
I did some projections assuming all of Morrissey, Connor and Roslovic get 2 year bridge deals after their ELCs. The only other possible bridge over the next 3 years is Laine and I can't see him being bridged.
Even by bridging everyone, there is no room for Stastny unless someone in addition to Enstrom, Myers, Mason and Kulikov is moved. The obvious candidate is Perreault. With him gone Chevy would need to find another 1-1.5 mil somewhere.[TBODY] [/TBODY]

In that 3rd year, there are potential bonus payments to Vesalainen and Samberg. Since they haven't signed yet it is hard to guess what bonuses they may be eligible for. Most of the bonus in the first year is for Laine and I think we should assume it gets earned.
While Chevy could probably come up with the 1-1.5 mil somehow, we have to consider if it is worth it for a player who quite likely ages out pretty sharply after the first 2 years of his contract.
