Seriously, who REALLY has a chance against the Pens?

Anaheim or Edmonton would kill the Caps physically. Pittsburgh is a pretty soft team and even they are tuning them up in this series. Seriously, getting outhit by the pens is pathetic.

Not a knock on Pittsburgh, they are more of a finesse team with a little bit of sandpaper, Washington is a regular season specialist with no bite. Even Nashville can give them a run for their money physically and they are generally a smaller speedy team.

What are you talking about?

Number of hits per game, Caps to the left and Pens to the right:
41 v 17
37 v 19
31 v 36
30 v 40
38 v 15
38 v 32
Total: 215 v 159

I would say that Nashville or Washington have the best chance against the Penguins due to their superior goaltending. However, the Penguins are a strong team and it is going to take a repeat of tonight to finish them off in game seven.

I think offensively, the Oilers would be able to bring it to the Penguins. They lost their two season games, but were within a goal both times. Also, out of the 5 goals that the Oilers scored, McDavid got a point on four of them. This could be a series where McDavid could open up and be a game changer. The Western conference seem to know how to handle him better. I am not sure if the Oilers would win, but I think they would have a chance.

Last years cup run and the injuries have caught up to the Penguins. They are just out of gas and not having Letang is a huge loss.

Looks like it might be the Caps and injuries. They're missing Letang, Crosby's playing hurt IMO. To bad because until Crosby got injured in Game 3 they were looking unstoppable.

While the overall hits may be relatively indicative of the physicality of the two teams, I find it interesting that the home team in each game (up til game 6) was awarded more hits by a significant margin than the away team. Makes me think that there may be a little home cooking on the hit stats department. I just found it mildly interesting...

I mean... one side of the table is more interesting than the other.

The difference between highest and lowest is 11 for one team and 25 for the other.

Disagree. Caps dominated the 1st 2 games, Fleury was standing on his head.

The caps have dramatically outplayed the pens. Pens probably wouldve lost to a healthy lightning team last year too. Even if pens get lucky and advance, they are clearly paper tigers.

How do we know Ottawa is playing better hockey than Washington if their matchups have been so much easier? Toronto was a top 10 team in the league in the second half, and pens are the defending champion. Boston and NY have been the 17th and 19th best teams since Jan 1st.

Nashville beat a Chicago team that had lost 4 in a row heading into the playoffs and that lacked depth.

Edmonton beat a team whose top 2 centers were injured.

You're not allowed to say this out loud - everyone knows the Leafs suck right.. That's just homerism

Reminds me of the game after San Jose got physically dominated and headed back home, they recorded 34 hits in the first period.

The home teams inflate their hits to dramatic levels at times.

Pens were lucky to win 3 this series because Fleury was playing above-Fleury goaltending. Now that he's gone back to the Fleury we all know and love, they are doneions.

Yeah...no. Ottawa isn't beating Washington or Pittsburgh.

Why do you think the Ottawa Senators have no chance to beat either Washington or Pittsburgh?

Washington beat Ottawa in 2 of their 3 games, but scored less goals during those (3 GF, 4 GA). Nothing dominating there.

Penguins lost 2 of their 3 games (one in a SO), while scoring less goals during those (10 GA vs 11 GF). Once again, they didn't dominate.

Ottawa can win either one of those if Anderson and Karlesson play well.

Fleury had a bee in his bonnet from being relegated to a backup and that motivation worked well for him. The guy is a major choker in game 7's and big pressure games though.

Nobody on either teams have anyone as good as Karlsson. We all remember how far a superstar defenseman can take an average team, ahem Pronger.

Did Fleury score 18 goals in 6 games?

Yeah, Caps have outplayed Pens for the majority of series, but Pens have shown killer instinct to make it go to 7. I see Caps going through and winning the ECF in 6.

Yeah...no... Yeah we are. No reason why they can't. They're still not producing consistently, outside of Karlsson. Anderson just has to play at a 2.00 GAA and steal 1 or two games. I expect game 1 to be a 8-9 combined goals game. We shown time and time again we can play against the best during the season. Yes, playoffs is different, but what's to say we don't dominate them even more? I'm not worried one bit.

Excellent argument by the way.

the bruins and rangers aren't the pens or caps

senators have no chance to beat those two teams or the west champ

Well, Toronto just about took Washington to the limit. In all due respect to the Blue Jackets, they just weren't ready for the Penguins. We're far better than they are. (Looking outside of an 82 game season, of course)
