Victims of sexual assault delaying reporting an incident is pretty common, heck, it might be the norm.

It's a nice way for him to deflect and refocuss the conversation by playing the victim himself and claiming they only came out because of the beliefs he expressed, but it's a pretty dangerous assumption to make and feeds right back into why these types of allegations get under reported, particularly when they involve wildly unbalanced power dynamics.
