New poll series coming from me on June 3
Yeah, still think the NHL is going to have a 32nd team sooner rather than later. If not Seattle then some other western team.
Nothing like the wheels of city politics grinding along.
Which is why I asked about the mayor and his resignation.
What power will the intern mayor have over the aldermen or councilmen for the vote?
You have a communist as a city council member and an extremely leftist city/county government. Do you really think that sports is a high priority for the city of Seattle or King County? Sports is not the realm of the proletariat. Also, the very nature of sports where you have winners and losers goes completely against the psyche of the snowflakes of the area.
I was initially extremely excited about the possibility of having an arena in SoDo; however, after seeing how screwed up the politics of the region are in regards to many things, I am actively cheering for Seattle's failure. When Ballmer high tailed it to LA and bought the Clippers for 2 billion, that cemented the possibility of never receiving one public penny for a sports facility.

if the NHL was really intent on doing everything it can, it would open its own pockets to pay to build an arena and not continue to play this old pathetic game of threats, extortion, lies and arrogance. more and more municipalities are laughing at him and his merry band of welfare billionaires. The NHL will have a 32nd team and it will be Seattle, the NHL will do everything it can, it may be a year later, than the NHL may like but Seattle will be coming to the NHL and the NHL will be going to Seattle.

Council member Tim Burgess, the odds-on favorite to be selected interim Seattle mayor by his fellow councilmembers next week, succinctly dismissed council consideration of the SoDo arena project at this time.
I think Sodo is dead.
... sure looks that way (and if I'm Hansen I'm sweating bullets over all that land Ive purchased, money sunk into this adventure) BUT, hey, Seattle, one never knows. Burgess "interim"... and I love that bit about how the Transpo Committee lacks the resources at this time to deal with the Street Vacation "because the funds have been allocated to working out an MOU with OVG for Key & we dont have the budget for it anymore".... My God. Government. How they actually get anything done at all I have no idea.
That would suck for LA and Anaheim (and Vegas) to lose a division rival that is a 4-5 hour drive.
Divisional alignment is a non-starter.If Seattle gets the 32nd team, that would create a logjam of teams in the Pacific division. The easternmost teams that are in the Pacific, the Oilers and Flames probably don't want to break up their rivalry with one of the teams moving to the Central, and the it wouldn't be ideal for Arizona to leave since the Golden Knight, Kings, and Ducks would lose a close division rival.
That's why I am hoping that Houston somehow gets the 32nd team, so that they could slide right into the Central division, with an instant rivalry with the Dallas Stars.
Divisional alignment is a non-starter.
Bettman has said before it doesn't play a part in where expansion teams are put. And as for the Pacific: Put Arizona in the Central with their neighbor Colorado (Heck, Arizona is closer to Dallas than Seattle!).
It's even closer to LA, Anaheim, San Jose and Las Vegas. Plus it runs under Pacific Time during the season.
Does anyone think that they would actually, after OVG's MOU is approved, actually grant the street vacation to Hansen thus opening the way for two arenas. Of course provided Hansen gets an NBA team sometime down the road.
I don't for a minute actually believe it could happen but then I get this nagging feeling, especially as it pertains to Seattle. That would be such an unsurprising result in an absolutely idiotic way!!
I think it's the opposite.
Arizona is on Mountain Standard Time all year, so they're an hour ahead of Pacific for most of the season once Pacific falls back from daylight to standard time for winter.
However, if Nevada can get congressional approval to move to permanent Pacific Daylight Time like we want to, we'll always be the same.
No. Unlikely for that to happen. Its either one or the other. And SCC gave hansen a good 4 years to get it done he didn't now the SCC is moving on. Unless the next mayor (post election) decides to move the sdot street vacation recommendation forward.
Crap... you're right. I got it backwards. Funny though Nevadans wanting to lock themselves into the same time year round. There's been talk in the past of Arizona unlocking itself.
The only reason I even bring it up is the NBA angle. They may feel almost locked out of Key as a revenue producer. I know your right but it sure would be a "fitting" result for all that has gone on.
I was tweaked by the not enough money to review street vacation issue while OVG process ongoing. Oh well I guess the air quality from fires is getting to me.
I don't think key arena remodel is going to be that big of an issue as some local fans think it is. NBA can stop the project from even happening and demand sodo arena if they choose to.
