Agreed. But that would be my initial ask from a Devils perspective. Would have to add to Vatanen for sure to acquire Rackell.

That’s the problem. Ducks lack stars for casual fans to watch at Honda center. Rakell is going to get more marketing now that Corey Perry is gone. You take Rakell away from Anaheim? You gotta give them something good in return that they can market around.

Getzlaf would be the only one on billboards competing for Southern California citizens money. Clippers just got Kawhi. Lakers just got Anthony Davis. Angels and Dodgers are all doing good this year as well.

There’s only so much money going around this coming fall and winter.

That’s why I don’t see Rakell going for anything less than a overpayment.

I agree. My Rackell post was basically saying that there is no forward on the Ducks roster I would be interested in acquiring for Vatanen except Rackell. Silfverberg, I would think about. Henrique, the Ducks would have to add, or retain salary (which ownership would never approve).

I would do Vatanen for Fowler straight up. Not Vatanen + a 1st round pick.

You gotta add something though man. Vatanen is a rental. Ducks aren’t swapping Fowler for vatanen straight up. I can see a second added getting the deal done. As confident as I am Vatanen would resign and he loves Southern California. Anaheim is still taking a risk.

That’s a starting point. I’m curious what other Duck fans think. Reason why im so keen on getting Vatanen is because Anaheim was last in the league regarding scoring last season. And We know Vatanen can put the puck in the back of the net in Anaheim. And I know he can do it again.

Anaheim forwards worth swapping Vatanen for:

Rickard Rakell
Troy Terry
Sam Steel
Max Comtois
Trevor Zegras
Max Jones
Isac Lundestrom

That's a horrible return for someone that can either leave in FA or be making similar money that Fowler already is while not being as good and not nearly as much of an upgrade offensively than Fowler. Fowler scores more goals and produces more points than Vatanen. You have to go back to when Vats was on the 3rd pairing with Stoner to find a time when he was out producing Fowler and even then it wasn't by much. You're taking away certainty in a one position and replacing it with uncertainty in another position without upgrading or knowing you can even properly replace what you just moved out.

I like Vats, but he's not an offensive guy, not a PP guy, and not someone I want someone back on the team in replace of Fowler.

Well that’s your opinion. Vatanen is a PP specialist. He also can break out pass and join the rush better than Fowler. If Coach Eakins wants to play a speed game Vatanen makes more sense over Fowler. Vatanen can skate and you know he can over Fowler. And Vatanen can shoot. That’s undeniable

Vatenen cannot skate like Fowler

You have to give to get, Fowler is a significantly better player than Vatanen at this point. Wihtout a good piece coming back why would the Ducks make the swap?

It's not opinion, it's fact. Vats had 3g/5 PPP last season, Fowler had 1g/6 PPP. The year before, Fowler had 1G/10 PPP, Vats had 1G/13PPP. The year before that Fowler had 5G/15 PPP, Vats had 2G/14PPP. They are both fairly similar players on the PP, if Vats is PP specialist, than so is Fowler. Even strength Fowler produces more as well.

I don't know what games you've been watching, but one of the best Fowler does is break out passes and joining the rush (and that causes defensive issues). Fowler is also a much better skater than Vats, his skating has always been his best selling point. If Vats can shoot, he sure doesn't hit the net nearly as much as you're suggesting either. Vats shot the puck 19 more times than Fowler last season, and only 1 more last season, so no he doesn't really shoot the puck more or better than Fowler.

That's been brought up in the forum. Suffice it to say that he's....divisive. I think if the deal were team friendly enough, most would be on board, though not all.
Understandable. when he's on he can be really really good. When he's off, well... he can singlehandedly cost games. Super unlikely, buy maybe hagg from Philly could be a fit?

How about Martinez, Toffoli and a 3rd for Vatenen and a pick, like a 2nd rounder? Looking at NJs cap situation, looks like they can re-sign both.

LA probably deals Vats at the deadline to one of the five million playoff teams in need of a RHD, for even more futures, hopefully in a package that nets another 2020 1st rounder.

That is a deal the Devils would accept.
