Us fans are often imagining the prospects will produce early, but 5 years is often the time needed for a prospect to start realizing the real potential.
He's about to be 23, that is the same age when Rakell started to come together as well. On a different level, but that's when Getzy became a PPG player, Perry scoring 30 goals, etc.
I expect the same with Tracey.

As bad as Manson has looked so far, Drysdale is not in our top 4 or top 6.None of them were top-10 picks either. Zegras, 9th overall, is pushing for NHL time already. Drysdale, 6th overall, is 18 years old and would be in our top-4 today.
I was hoping for Steel to breakout last year, but he wasn't ready and was overwhelmed. He's taken steps to look better this year, but I'm hoping he continues to improve the following year in getting even stronger.

But yeah, I think the man body just start to get in peak performance around 23 year age.
Drysdale would be good right now defending 1 on 1 and rushing the puck but he would literally lose every single 50/50 battle at this current time. He is not one of our top 4 defensemen right now.
But you said he was top 4... and I would take Hutton and Djoos (cry) over him right now for NHL easily. Larsson is also probably better fit for the NHL than Drysdale at this time. I think if Drysdale played right now he would be similar to how Mahura looked last year.Drysdale is better than all of our 5/6/7 guys today. Fortunately, we have a top-4 to prevent him from breaking into the league, which we did not do with Fowler. Do I want Drysdale in the NHL today? No. I do think he's exceeded the CHL and testing out the AHL is a good litmus test. Again, we pushed Fowler as an 18-year old due to need on defense. We pushed Lundestrom as an 18-year old due a need in centers. The additions of Shattenkirk and Hutton will stave that necessity to rush Drysdale. This org has a history of pushing 18-year olds due to necessity of talent infusion.
The point I was trying sharing was that with top-10 guys, their trajectory is different from late first round picks if they're on point. Zegras is already at the AHL level (due to signing a contract as an NCAA'er). Tracey, who was selected in the same draft year as Zegras as well as selected in the first round, is probably a few years away from the NHL.
I'm just not convinced about that. It's easier to look good against OHL or even WJC (on a stacked team) opposition than to NHL regulars.Drysdale is better than all of our 5/6/7 guys today. What is going on why is this a drysdale thread... can we go back to Super Sam Steel
this is infuriating to read, they are really trying to turn him into a grinder. He doesn't have the traits to be a good checking line center, he's small and not particularly fast. Man this organization sucks.I thought this comment was interesting regarding Steel. I’d rather see if he can contribute offensively on the wing instead of having him play in the role of a shutdown centre. Imo he’d also struggle against quicker and more powerful centres that he’d be asked to go up against.

Just the general idea of having a designated shutdown centre who does nothing offensively on your team is a pretty antiquated conceptthis is infuriating to read, they are really trying to turn him into a grinder. Makes you wonder how long they've been trying to turn him into this, has it been just recently or has this been going on for awhile? They really should have left him with the GullsJust the general idea of having a designated shutdown centre who does nothing offensively on your team is a pretty antiquated concept
On the Athletic Stephens reported that the Ducks want Steel to become a checking, matchup center, and not worry about points.
Man, why?
God just freaking trade him now. And fire Bob and Eakins while we're at it.
