I think it is going to be Markov 4.5 x 2, Galchenyuk 5.5 x 1 and Radulov walks.

I would prefer to lock down both Galchenyuk and Radulov to long term contracts personally.

They are both going to be top line players for the next 3-5 years at least.

Markov at a 2 year deal is stupid if the organization does this. Multi year contracts signed after the age of 36 are risky if the Player retires early. Your then on the hook for the entire cap hit. A lot can happen in a year... especially for a guy who will be age 39/40 next year.

I expect a one year deal at somewhere around $4.5M. His actual salary last year was $4.25M. Something to take in consideration too.

I've analyzed the Habs cap situation over the next 3 years a lot. If everybody is back and we still have the same Salary cap. I think your $7M is more like $1-3M when you realistically factor in the new contracts of Radulov, Galchenyuk, and Markov.

Do you have a 25 man roster and a $73M salary cap?

22 man roster built on Capfriendly.

Pacioretty, Max
$4,500,000
LWUFA - 2
Galchenyuk, Alex
$3,500,000
CRFA
Gallagher, Brendan
$3,750,000
RWUFA - 4
Lehkonen, Artturi
$839,167
LWRFA - 2
Plekanec, Tomas
$6,000,000
CUFA - 1
Radulov, Alexander
$5,500,000
RWUFA
Byron, Paul
$1,166,667
C, LW, RWUFA - 2
Danault, Phillip
$912,500
CRFA - 1
Shaw, Andrew
$3,900,000
C, LW, RWUFA - 5
Hudon, Charles
$750,000
LWRFA
McCarron, Michael
$863,333
RW, CRFA - 1
Mitchell, Torrey
$1,200,000
C, RWUFA - 1
Martinsen, Andreas
$675,000
CUFA - 1
Left Defense Right Defense Goaltender
Sergachev, Mikhail
$894,166
DRFA - 3
Weber, Shea
$7,857,143
DUFA - 9
Price, Carey
$6,500,000
M-NTC NMCUFA - 1
Markov, Andrei
$4,000,000
DUFA
Petry, Jeff
$5,500,000
DNMCUFA - 4
Montoya, Al
$1,062,500
UFA - 2
Emelin, Alexei
$4,100,000
DM-NTCUFA - 1
Benn, Jordie
$1,100,000
DUFA - 2
Davidson, Brandon
$1,425,000
DRFA - 1

Give or take a few hundred grand here or there, it still gives us a full roster with Emelin and Plex with $7,004,524 in space. I'd be curious to see how much you think Montreal will give Rds, Markov and Chucky?

Washington has said if the cap stays flat they are unlikely to re-sign Oshie. Could be a nice add, though we'd have competition.

If we add Oshie and re-sign Radulov that may make a RNH-Gallagher deal more palatable.

I would have to agree. Players will vote for extra cap space so GM's can sign crazy contracts again. I'm betting on $75 or $76M.

That doesn't make sense, the players get a fixed share of revenues, if some players get crazy contracts, the other players will have to settle for less.

Also the higher the inflator, the higher the escrow next season, so players will get less than their full contract in exchange for some players getting crazy contracts.

1) 25 man roster likely brings your cap down $2-3M (3 extra players) You may be able to carry a 24 man roster but most teams carry a few guys extra all season. Having guys in Laval will help this year though where call ups are close when injuries happen!

2) Contracts for Radulov, Galchenyuk, Markov

- Radulov: $6-7M range for 4 or 5 years. Radulov is not taking less salary than he took last year. You need to increase your $5.5M

- Galchenyuk: Depends on term. 1 year at $4.5M. Or multi year deal at 6-8 years for $5.75M - $6.25M

- Markov: Last year he made $4.25M in actual salary. I expect his next deal is 1 year at somewhere around $4-4.5M

If Pleky and Emelin are back and we have a Salary Cap of $75M with new contracts for Radulov, Galchenyuk, Markov, were looking at a 25 man roster with about $4.5M in cap space (+/-). That's my assessment

I think you're at the high end of the range and I'm at the low end. Probably land somewhere in the middle.

With an extra forward and extra d and the team in the Laval this year, I don't see why they would have more than a 22 man roster even though the max is 23. Guys like Martinsen or Hudon would be better off platooning in and out while a guy like Flynn etc could ride the bench, assuming they resign him or another vet player like him.

Point is we have a lot of space and if rumors of Beau being traded then the odds of losing Plex or Emelin seem higher and more cap space will open. We're in a good spot.

That is because his contract was front loaded. Now that his other kids have joined him in Montreal should interesting to see what are his intentions. He does have a Canadian citizenship and does not seem to be the type of guy who likes change too much. Hopefully he can take another home discount but I doubt it will be below 5 million on a single season.

2 years - at least 11 millions is what I expect. If it is a 1 year, I expect 5 millions base up to 6 millions and more depending on bonus structure. Heck a guy like Perty is 5.5AAV and Markov is still more useful.

That's a lot of money for a 38 years old .

Yes it is however he is the type of player who relies more on his hockey IQ than athletic ability. If you look at his production last three years, he remains pretty consistent. Markov 4m for one year would be an insult when Emelin is at 4.1. Ideally I would like a one year deal with a bonus structure.

He has 3 kids with I believe 3 different women (one deceased). Those things can get expensive!

This Drouin deal makes it harder to keep our core players, not that I'm not happy with the trade.

Cap space: $17,012,023

Need to re-sign:
- Radulov
- Galchenyuk
- Beaulieu
- Markov

IMO, Galchenyuk should be a lock for 6m...that leaves 11m for Markov and Radulov. Beaulieu is probably gone.

Cap should not be a problem until the year Patch, Lehkonen, and Byron have to be re signed. This is why I would trade Patch now. Galchenyuk should stay unless we get a chance to acquire Tavares

Drouin signed for 5.5 for six years. Galchenyuk I think is about equal.

Galchenyuk 5.5
Radulov 6
Markov 4 (takes a discount from last contact)

That leaves 1.5 million for Beaulieu before a potential cap raise. Not sure what his contract demands will be.

Don't we still have to sign a few marginal players to get to 23 men roster?

The Drouin acquisition makes me more open to aggressively push for a Plekanec or Emelin trade. I would be totally open to give some additional picks to get rid of them as cap dumps in a trade where we upgrade/acquire a center.

Getting both Radulov back AND a top 6 center would definitely put us in the contender territory. At least we'd be able to compete against anyone during the playoffs.

Cap going up to 75M$

Salary cap going up to 75M. That leaves Habs with 19M in cap space.

- If Vegas selects Plekanec, Habs will have 25M in cap space.
- If Vegas selects Emelin, Habs will have 23.1M in cap space.
- If anyone else is selected, not much room will be made.

Still, 19M is enough to extend Galchenyuk, Radulov, and Markov. And if they make trades, they can take advantage of cap strapped teams and have room to acquire a good player the other team can no longer afford to keep.

Habs are in a very good spot cap wise. Other teams with a lot of room are teams with self imposed cap by ownership. But Habs being a team whose owner isn't afraid to spend, 19M is A LOT of room.

Would be nice to sign radulov again... hope bergy does it. Oh and that Galchenyuk guy can get a contract too. I take it markov is just a given.
