Habs should be at 45 contracts once they sign Lindgren unless Mete somehow makes the team it would be 46.

They have 8,187,023M in cap space with this roster,

Pac Galchenyuk Drouin
Lehkonen Danault Gallagher
Byron Pleks Hemsky
DLR Mitchell Shaw
Hudon Martinsen

Alzner Weber
Schlemko Petry
Jerabek Benn
Davidson

Price
Montoya

If for some reason they needed more money they could try and package Davidson with Montoya and go with Lindgren and Morrow in their place. That would get them another 1,187,500M in cap space. Imo Lindgren could easily replace Montoya but Morrow I don't know how much of a downgrade he would be on Davidson or not.

The Habs, according to CapFriendly, currently have 9.1M in cap space after Galchenyuk's extension today. But counted against the cap are Peter Holland's and Joe Morrow's contracts. Why were their contracts placed there while Froese and Taormina were not? Holland is a two-way deal on year 1 and a one-way deal on year 2. Froese has the exact same deal.

So why did CapFriendly choose to count their contracts against the cap and not Froese & Taormina? If the reason is because Holland and Morrow finished the year in the NHL while the other two were in the minors, then in that case, why isn't McCarron counted against the cap since he finished the year in the NHL.

Because if you remove Holland's and Morrow's contracts, the Hab have 10.4M in cap space.

Probably because you have 23 guys on the roster. Those two make 22. They are also NHL level, as you pointed out.

It's an educated guess. Taormina and Froese are full-time AHLers while Holland and Morrow have a good chance to start the season with the team.

2017-2018:
- All RFA's signed and only Markov left as a UFA

2018-2019:
- UFA's: Pleky, Mitchell, Hemsky, Martinsen, Jerabek, Terry, Redmond
- RFA's: Danault, Davidson, Morrow, McCarron, Carr, DLR, Parisi, Fucale, Eisenschmid, Gregorie

2019-2020:
- UFA: Patch, Byron, Holland, Benn, Montoya, Taormina, Froese
- RFA: Lehkonen, Scherbak, Reway, Audette, Lernout, Hudon

Interesting to look at who we have to sign in the next 3 years and how they will develop from today to when they have to be re signed.

Will be interesting to see how Morrow fits. Julien didn't play him that much last year in Boston. But he did play 5 playoff games.

Holland and Morrow are waiver-eligible. McCaron and others are not.

That's the only reason why.

no, all of them need waivers except McCarron. DLR, Hudon, Taormina and Froese along with Morrow and Holland all have to clear waivers to play in the AHL along with Terry.

So whats up with cap space? if cap goes up to 82m, we drop plec and a few little contracts like hemsky etc, how much will we have next year?

What are the chances we can sign a potential top C out of next 2 ufa classes?

Tavares
Seguin
Couture
Duchene
Henrique
Lee
Stasny
Pavelsky
Spezza

If these players become available how will we be positioned compared to other teams that might like to sign them cap wise? I assume with the cap up so much over 3 years these players will sign for a lot more than we have come to expect?

So many question for the cap gurus haha

thanks

We'll have around 21M in cap space
Galchenyuk - Drouin - Gallagher
Pacioretty - Shaw - Lehkonen
Hudon - Byron - Scherbak

Mete - Weber
Alzner - Petry
Schlemko - Benn

Price
Montoya

RFA to re-sign: McCarron, Carr, Danault, DLR, Morrow, Lindgren (might save some cap if Montoya is traded and Lindgren signs for less)
Other RFA that could be re-signed: Parisi, Fucale, Grégoire, Baun, Eisenschmid
UFA: Plekanec, Jerabek, Deslauriers, Hemsky, Niemi

Let's say we can sign 3 FWD/1 D at around 1 M each (e.g. McCarron, Carr, DLR, Morrow)+ Danault at 2.5M+ Trade Montoya and sign Lindgren 1 M you get:

Galchenyuk - Drouin - Gallagher
Pacioretty - Danault - Lehkonen
Hudon - Shaw - Scherbak
Carr - DLR - Byron
McCarron

Mete - Weber
Alzner - Petry
Schlemko - Benn
Morrow

Price
Lindgren

That would leave us with around 15.5 M to spend on a C and a D.

Galchenyuk - XXXX - Gallagher
Pacioretty - Drouin - Lehkonen
Hudon - Danault - Shaw
Carr - DLR - Byron
McCarron

XXXX - Weber
Mete - Petry
Alzner - Schlemko
Morrow - Benn

Price
Lindgren

Probably trade Scherbak or try him on waivers (IIRC he is waiver eligible next year?). We're probably gonna sign some expired vets instead though.
