Nice sequence off a Laaksonen shot. Finns up 5-1 in the shots so far in the 2nd, 1-0 on the scoresheet for the frame.

Laaksonen working the right point on the PP, gets a couple of touches before the Finns 3rd goal. No point to him, but workmanlike point work.

Laaksonen with the double whammy - shot blocked at the offensive blueline that gives Comtois a break, then fires the puck into the stands for a delay of game penalty after UPL makes the save.

UPL with some great saves and a few lucky moments. He looks calmer/cooler/more in control than last tournament.

Lets hope for a strong showing by all of the Sabres attendees. And hope that people can temper their expectations a bit when someone does have a strong showing. :biglaugh:

How in the hell is a guy supposed to quit on a check a half second after a player passes the puck? This has to be one of the dumbest rules I've ever seen. Half of them will be called, half won't and thos is going to effect the outcome of games based on how the referee feels that day.

They may as well just make the rule no body checking, because that seems like where they're headed anyway. If the refs actually enforce this rule, either guys are gonna take a shitload of penalties, or they'll just learn not to play the body since as soon as the opposing player sees the hit coming, he's gonna dump the puck to get the penalty call. It's an absurd rule. Completely unfair to checkers to call a hit "late" when it was legal at the time they lined it up, and there was absolutely nothing they could've done to avoid contact after the puck moved.

As someone who hasn’t followed prospects much this year with the Sabres not being towards the bottom of the league. Who are the favorites this year and expected to medal?

Good thread for this too:

Who are the 2019 eligible In this?

Hughes
Kakko
Knight?
More 2019: Broberg, Heinola, Honka, Nussbaumer, Podkolzin, Sogaard .. 2020: Lafreniere, Lundell .. then there's probably a handful of older guys like Eggenberger or Leason that are second- or third-year eligible.

LaFever from just a hockey watching point of view is very interesting to see how he does at such a young age.

I hear a ton about Podkolzin, super interested just to see him for the first time.

Lundell's just as young, maybe a week older, and regularly centers a line in Liiga. Hughes, Kakko, and Podkolzin are out of their likely draft range. Broberg shot up most lists too unfortunately and I don't really want to encourage the idea of first-round goalies. Heck, a goalie in the first three rounds is usually too early for me with all the development time they need.
