then again, any team are looking for d-man of Gus's caliber

They have Pilut waiting in Rochester, Gus will cost more to re-sign if they want to keep him, and Buffalo is missing 3rd rd picks the next two drafts so they can't afford to waste a 2nd on two players they won't need or keep (Perlini is not what they are missing up front).

We have a huge log jam on defense... Montour, Bogosian, Pilut, Fitzgerald are on IR. We've got to move a body.
Pilut is back playing in Rochester and Montou is likely 2-3 weeks away.

bogo just started skating and a January return seems likely.

why and for that cap hit?
why and for that cap hit?

Salary cap is not a concern at all for the wild. And hes an expiring contract so he doesn't hinder your future plans.
I just really liked him while he was here before, and he could add solid depth, plus could be an insurance policy if we trade brodin.
I know we have seeler and soucy, I'm not saying they're bad or anything. Just would like to see him back.

Yep - who knew we'd be in this position after the last several years of famine on the blue line.

if we trade Brodin or any of our other D it'd be nice to have him but if that doesn't happen--and he's no replacement for Brodin in that pair as shut down guys--he's a really expensive insurance policy and not too sure Craig is going to want to pay $4m for that. I wasn't implying he was bad or anything--just we're flush with okayish D now that B Hunt has established a permanent spot. and we have the two physical specialists rotating on the third pair.

It'd make sense for Ottawa to take him for some time and flip him. But Ottawa sends back a decent vet to help their team, would say Craig Anderson but I think Anderson would be a good back-up to a potential top-notch contender in need of a trusted back-up.

Buffalo doesn’t have goalie problems. They have hamburgler in Rochester.

I doubt it.

The problem is that while Montreal could use a real upgrade at LHD, I'm not sure Scandella right now is a meaningful enough upgrade on any of Mete, Kulak or Chiarot to really bother. They'd probably want higher caliber D to bother moving Lehkonen or Armia.

Yup, Montreal needs a top.pairing LhD who skates well and moves the puck.

That isnt scandella.

The Habs have chiarot for.the third pair lhd who is a more defensive guy.

Scandella doesnt improve the team. Montreal has lots of.depth pieces on LD but need a true top pair guy not more third pair guys.

Scandella for Miles Wood. Or does that make too much sense?
Wood has two more years left before becoming RFA. I would want more than a pending UFA coming back, though i definitely like the idea.

This would allow us to dump Mueller and would open up a permanent spot for Boqvist.

Seabrook for Scandella straight up?

Who pays Seabrooks contract? It's a biggie, that's for sure.

Is Chicago tossing in a bunch of first-round picks or something to compensate Buffalo for taking that one on?
Chicago is more than overpaying Buffalo with intangibles and leadership. Be thankful

Well, I'm a Leafs fan, and while the Sabres are looking pretty good and the Leafs are looking pretty bad I suppose I could be very thankful for the trade you propose on that basis alone. It would be very damaging to Buffalo's salary-cap profile and would eventually hurt their roster.

However, your suggestion that Chicago would be "more than overpaying Buffalo with intangibles and leadership" is off-the-charts nuts.
