Spooner Prediction

Has played his last game in the Minors.... Will be the 3rd Line center for the remainder of the year after Krejci is back. And will center Peverly and Soderberg in about a couple of weeks from now.

But I thought Julien hated kids and only wanted to double-shift Pandolfo? ;)

Nice to see the kid rewarded for his strong play in Providence this year, but I think it will be a tough test for Spoons. It took Krejci and Marchand 20+ NHL games to get acclimated to the NHL and start contributing- and while Spooner did a couple nice things in his first game, I thought he looked really green against MTL. That's to be expected of course, but it's a big leap from wide-eyed rookie to running the first line.

Here's hoping the kid has an exceptional learning curve!
I don't the logic of this move at all. Has Seguin not earned the opportunity to center the top line again (he's done it before)? By contrast, what has Spooner done to desrve that change? Not nearly as much as Seguin has done.

Anyone who thinks that both:

1. Seguin cannot play C and is just another Kessel type winger.

AND

2. Spooner is an NHL-ready center, TODAY.

... is going to be sorely disappointed.

I'm glad to see the kid up and getting a shot, but what happened to Claude being a guy who made the young players pay their dues, earn their chances, have nothing handed to them?

From what Neely has said, they want to keep him with skill guys. Could happen. Kelly is expected back for the playoffs though.

Logic is our number one line is Marchand-Bergeron-Seguin and this line stays intact.
Option was Peverley or Spooner. He will try Spooner if he sees him out of place will turn to Peverley. I see Spooner at centre between Looch and Horton because he has the vision and passing sense to feed them. Peverley has become a defensive specialist and has a tendency to take bad percentage shots. Gutsy call by Julien but I expect results because Spooner will be pumped and he is nhl ready. Bye bye to the american hockey league for him. Spoooooooooooner time has finally arrived

1. Why would Julien break up Seguin/Bergeron/Marchand to put Seguin at center?

2. Spooner is stepping in to pinch-hit for a player who's hurt. He's not being "handed" anything.

Right on Artemis. When krecji comes back Spooner will centre the third line with Peverley and Caron (or acquired winger on the wings ). We need a top 4 defenceman before the deadline. Love to have Streit. Let's offer Boychuk, 2nd Rounder, and Sauve for him. Hope the Isles bite. lol

Just clarifying that when you say "he" you mean Spooner, not Krejci.

When Krejci comes back he will in all probability return to center Lucic and Horton. Spooner may take Kelly's spot (why not?) until Kelly returns.

I'm just so excited. Spooner centering Looch and Nasty Nate ... never would have guessed that. Kudos, Claude, great move. :yo:

I am worried about the perception here. At the expense of stating the obvious, the AHL is not the NHL and he is about to be tossed into some pretty deep water. Frankly, I hope he can tread water and not drown, nevermind actually accomplish something. This gets to something Bill said a few posts up:

It's great to see him get a shot. But hopefully folks don't get too carried away with what they expect to see. From AHL play to top-6 minutes in the NHL. OOOFA!

Hopefully lucic and Horton bring thier A games to give the kid some help.

I give Spooner one period centering Horton and Looch before Claude demotes him.

It's certainly possible and I'd guess 50-50. If he can't keep up or can't make (or receive) the passes then he'll move to the third (or fourth) line. I don't remember his performance in the MTL game referenced earlier. Can anyone comment?

I think the orders are from up top that Spooner plays with the top 6. I can see them sliding Pevs up to the 1st line in a late game situation, but this is a good opportunity to see what the kid's got.

I think he only played 5 mins in that game. So couldn't tell much from that showing, he wasn't bad or anything though.

I'd like to see him get a few games at least, even if Krejci comes back he should be able to play on the 3rd line with Peverley and Caron no problem.

I will be very surprised if he's on that line all night. I will also be happy, since it would mean he's played great.

But based on past experience I think Peverley and Campbell will also see time on that line.

Neely on 98.5 this afternoon seemed to indicate that he would start out on the Horton/ looch line. We will see I guess.

I don't really see what the problem with leaving Spooner on the top line is.

Regardless of what Spooner does (good or bad) this team is either getting the #1, #2, or #4 seed in the conference and the playoffs are a crapshoot anyway.

And if you put him on the looch line you don't have to play with the rest of the lines.
