MHL became younger since that times. There were WJC players from MHL in the past, but now there is no chance for MHL player to become a part of the national team.

I feel like that leaves out that Tavares is a lot bigger and Kane skates a lot better.

Well, it was projection. I'm sure, Michkov will become bigger and learn to skate better (Kane isn't McDavid after all, and Michkov is probably already more agile), as to everything other, that's still the big question, of course. Tavares and Kane are superstars, and nobody can guarantee, Michkov will become one.

Nah, MHL hasn't become younger, at least on paper. It's just there are way more good young player, than it was back to Kucherov's time. Russian development programm works.

I agree about amount of good young players, but as far I remember, there were another limitations for overagers in first few seasons. Also the highest age was different if I am not mistaken

Well, Michkov played with Marchenko (SKA's starter) and Khusnutdinov, so it was easier to score for him, than when playing with 2003 kids on Varyagi, and they played vs 2nd worst MHL team.

Ovechkin made 18-8-26 in 19 games in the Russia-3 league at the age of 16. Was this league a junior league? Michkov's numbers are similar. I don't know much about this league that Ovechkin played. What was the level of talent in this league and how do they compare?

Nah, it was a pro league, but 2 tiers below the RSL (the Russian top league back to then), so by modern standarts it would be the league a tier below the VHL.

Guessing it can not be compared. That Russia-3 was a 3rd tier senior-league with a mix of players, so adults and juniors. If I know, Russia did not have a national junior hockey league at the time. Of course, there were regional junior leagues, but they did not include all leading teams of the country, so their level was not that great. Hence a reason why top young prospects played the senior leagues. Usually for a reserve (farm) teams in lower divisions.

Beautiful goal, but the art of the hipcheck seems to becoming a lost art even in Russia where dmen excel at this skill.
