i'm confused why you need hockey experience to be CEO or President of a NHL team.

Exhibit A: Pittsburgh Penguins.

If the Letang trade rumor was true, there's an example of a man who doesn't think "Hey, we can get two good players back that will overall help the team win...because it fill two gapping holes" but instead thinks "we can't trade Letang! He's good looking and marketable to younger fans, especially females!"

It really sucks that Shanahan ended up in Toronto, I think he would have been fantastic, he is a no-nonsense type of person and the changes coming to Toronto, I have zero doubts they are going to rebound in a very big way and will get back on track now that Shanny has had a good look at things.

We need a Team President/CEO like that, since the two roles are tied together it seems with this team.

Edit: I think that committee that Rutherford has to go through to make any moves or is told by is: Lemieux, Morehouse, Botterill, Guerin, Tocchet, and Fitzgerald.

I would pay Penguins ticket prices to see that if they screen it at the CEC.

Hahaha. It would be pretty funny spoof.

Depends on how the Owners set that role up. If the CEO is heavily involved in any of the hockey operations, then having a CEO who never spent a day in his life playing, coaching, or running a high level hockey team is a recipe for failure. Morehouse is the anti-hockey. All he knows how to do is market and public relations due to his background. He was a terrible choice by Mario / Burkle. If they wanted him to head the marketing department and media relations well that'd be fine. Anything beyond that is ****ing stupid because he's not remotely qualified.

Not sure I buy the Morehouse/Letang rumor. People say Shero was run out partially so Morehouse could force the next GM to report to him. Morehouse never had that authority over Shero so I'm not sure how he could have nixed any Letang deal that Shero wanted to make. Not to mention I don't think Philly would have offered both Voracek and Simmonds for Letang. That's an insane price.

Yeah I doubt very much they offered that but if any team is capable of it and in desperate need of franchise D, it's Philly.

Oilers & Philly, I could see both offering something nuts back then. But I think if anything, Morehouse likely got his higher ups to nix the deal. Shero didn't have to report to him, but he had to report to Mario.

Also considering it was rumor madden spit out there. Suddenly he's a legit source here.

MM is close to Letang and has been spot-on some Letang related things before, ahead of everyone else.

Mark Madden said after he checked into the rumor, he said it never happened. This board is the only place that kept the rumor going as fact. I would bet anything this rumor originated from Rossi and Madden ran with it since it made for a juicy story. Madden has since said on a number of occasions that it never happened.

The Philadelphia rumor came from Philadelphia radio. Doesn't make it true, since those guys are clowns as well, but it positively had nothing to do with Madden or Rossi.

Just like Eklund has at least one valid pipeline into the Philly front office Madden has his legit sources as well. If he ever had a rumor about a stripper I would believe it was legit. Other than that not so much.

True or not, not at that time. Voracek hadn't broken out yet and was an average top 6 wing. Simmonds was good but hopped between the 2nd and 3rd line a lot. Those two's cap hits going out to bring back a Norris caliber PMD Letang who was going to be locked up for awhile...for a defense that was in shambles, it makes sense.

Hindsight, Philly laughs and hangs up the phone.

Just imagine if the trade did happen, same with the Neal trade. One hell of a top 6, even Despres would be staying.....or so i would hope?

I would vomit if Letang ended up as a Flyer.

I'd be happy even if we got Todd McLellan or BB if they don't re-sign him. We preach experience afterall.

Personally, McLellan and Babcock, maybe Hitchock as well, are the only coaches I would dump MJ for.

FWIW, I've always maintained that the Philly thing wasn't reality, but a trade with the Lightning was.

Yeah, I don't really buy the Philly thing either. Why would we give the Flyers a stud defenseman, and why would they give us two very good wingers? It's fun to speculate as to what might have been though. Seeing as how we didn't even make it out of April, not a whole lot to talk about.

Mike Babcock is a free agent, and we will be sitting on the sidelines.

Because Mike Johnston.
