Sprong dominates the AHL at least.

In Ho-Sangs last 2 AHL season he had 16 goals. People say Benson might not be good cause he didn't score much last year. He had 15.
Also would be really satisfying if he did work out because God damn I hate the ducks and I’m sick of getting scored on 6 on 5 with these ridiculously lucky breaks they constantly get against us. I just really feel owed by them.

I think Sprong going be picked up before the Oilers have a chance anyway I rather pick Sprong . I’m not entirely sold on Ho Sang. Sprong proven scorer at the AHL and NHL level Also there are reports of attitude problems with HS.
Honestly I think Petan would be better fit off waivers than HS
Petan and McDavid had chemistry at the world Juniors And Petan also proven scorer at the AHL level.

I don’t think Sprong gets past Ottawa or LA in terms of waiver order.

Grabner really found a way to stay relevant first as a break away specialist, then as a PK specialist, and then in his later years molded that into a more comprehensive package. If Grabner didn't have those special traits he brought to the table he would of found his way out of this league and would probably be playing in Europe right now. Unless Ho-Sang can put up the points immediately he's going to have to find a niche that he can fill to buy himself more time, a lot of high skill junior players who can't find a niche and don't provide 2nd line level offense often end up flaming out like your Rattie's, Petan's, and Schremp's of the world.

Yes, there are prospects that flame out. There are prospects that make it too. The difference between Rattie and Schremp is that he's got the wheels for today's NHL, which also doesn't necessitate that you have size which is what may have held Schremp back. Also, both Rattie and Schremp were given long looks and proved to not be able to get the job done. Ho-Sang has 2 20 game try outs to start... and he scored at a 0.5 pace playing with probably bottom 6 guys. Then he had a 10 game stint only. Rattie had a 50 game look and couldn't get close to 0.5 PPG, which is why the story is now closed on Rattie.

Looks to me like Ho-Sang hasn't even been given a real shot yet.

We could go in there, essentially saving his career and have a guy who actually appreciates being brought to Edmonton. We'll see a guy who's hungry for the chance to finally prove himself and all we have to do is give him a REAL oppurtunity (not like Burdasov). I think if we get him on and let him play with 1 of our 3 best centers we'll have uncovered a diamond in the rough.

Everyone has the chance to claim Ho-Tsang every year. This isn’t the first time he’s been on waivers. Two big problems with Ho-Tsang

-Screams off ice nightmare
-Can’t score goals at the pro level

pass

I’d look at Sprong but I wouldn’t touch Ho-Tsang

I don't care about his off ice crap, I care about his on ice talent. If he didn't have any warts we wouldn't be getting him for free so it comes with the territory. It'll be up to our team, our coaching, and our management to make it work with his issues. Like how Evander Kane was welcomed and integrated into the San Jose culture and now is a key member of their team. If he's got talent, we just got to get him to buy in. I mean we did it with Kassian. Usually players who have been tossed around and rejected get appreciative if they know they have a chance to have an NHL career again instead of nothing.

Ho-Sang had a 20 game stint, another 20 game stint, then a 10 game stint. He hasn't even been given an opportunity yet. He seems like more of a playmaker than a goal scorer, so what's wrong with that? So was McDavid, so was alot of the greats in this league.

Benson and Ho-Sang are playmakers. Since when was GOALS the be all, end all of an offensive player? Production has always been about POINTS. Goals that wouldn't have happened if not for a great assist exist quiet frequently. I mean it's nice that McDavid upped his goal scoring ability, but if he had won his first Art Ross with 100 assists he'd still be looked upon as one the game's best. ......Or has Toronto's Austin Matthews is the greatest cause 1 goal = 2 assists narrative really took hold and brainwashed even Oiler fans....

Not getting the love for Ho Sang. NYI did everything in the power to turn the kid around and they finally gave up.

for me this is about on this board, other teams broken toys are better then out out toys.

here is the thing--we will be entering the season with maybe 5 or 6 new toys up front, 2 blue line and 1 on the back end.

before we add broken toys from other teams let see what ours can do?

Also, as I pointed out before, as per cap friendly we are at 48/50 contracts and I would only add a player if we can send one out.

Over the last say 5 years--come trade deadline, how often (besides myself) has a poster complained about the fact we were up against the contract cap and could not add someone and a little money because we were so tight?

but this is just me

So Sprong or Ho-Sang are head and shoulders above The Russia guy on a PTO? Or is it more name recognition? Or splitting hairs for marginal guys?

I think I'd claim one of Sprong or JHS.

Not sure what the big hangups on contracts is.

The team is short on wingers who can put the puck in the net and both these players have that potential.

It also wouldn't be overly hard to unload a contract later on in the season if you're worried about say trying to lure a college free agent and wanting to offer them immediate playing time in order to sign.

I always thought so too, but it’s not really that bad actually. The 3 guys drafted have played like 1300 games, and scored 600 points. And that’s with Plante being a complete bust. If you take the guys taken 2 spots after us, we end up with Hamill, Cherepanov, and Blum. That’s 130 games, and 28 points. Or it could have been say Ellerby, Esposito, and White.

It certainly could have been better if we got the best player at every pick, but Plante was the only real miss there, and 4 of the 5 guys taken after him were also busts. That draft turned into a bust because Nash bailed and we went from 2 out of 3 to 1 out of 3.

They sure drafted small for 2 years in a row. What did they see in Plante? He was terrible

And Ho-Sang hasn't even really been a good playmaker at the AHL level either though. Guy is a bust.

I would put a claim on Ho-Sang & Sprong while putting Grandlund & Sheahan on waivers. I really doubt any team will be active in trying to claim those players. Is being at 50 contracts really that bad?

Jurco-McDavid-Ho-Sang
Nygard-Draisaitl-Sprong
Chiasson-RNH-Neal
Kharia-Haas-Kassian
Ex: Russell, Archibald

Why would they waive Sheahan to fit in a waiver claim? That's silly talk.
Sheahan has been darn effective this season, he's arguably the Oilers best bottom 6 player as sad as that may be.
