it was more of a joke. Klefbom wasn’t the cog on the PP that Raab thinks he was. His PP minutes could go to 4 other Dmen on the roster and it really wouldn’t hurt the PP IMO. If anything giving those minutes to better offensive players like Bear or Bouchard would improve the PP even more as teams would have to respect them or might even fear them.

Giving those PP minutes to Krug may improve it even more!

Just put Nurse on the PP. he’s more effective than Klefbom on the PP anyway...

The pair of Nurse and Bear is just fine. The Oilers are solid with those two (considering that neither gets PP time and they get tons of points). At 5v5, Bear had 22 points and Nurse at 26. Bear was -4 and Nurse was-2.

Klefbom had only 16 points at 5v5. He was -17. That can be replaced. The combination of Larsson / Klefbom last year was not all that.

Who would you guys sign if not Krug?

I would roll

Nurse / Bear
Jones / Larsson

You still have Russell for third pair. You can put Bouchard on your third pair as well.

You could still add Gudas, Barrie, Kulikov, Brodie.

Or you trade for a LHD who has some miles, can play middle pairing, and who is defensively responsible and does not need to get you any points.

Nurse, Bear, and Jones should be better than last year just based on age and experience.

Money is needed for the third line and goalie. The defense will work.

We're not buying out Neal. The cap complications would be ridiculous, it sucks as is having to deal with Sekera and Pouliot now.

it wouldn’t be though. His cap hit would be 1.9M for the next 3 years, when the cap is flat - which is better than 5.25. The next 3 years it’s more swallowable with the cap going up. What sucks is Sekera’s dead space in conjunction with Neal’s.

The flip side is that the freed up 3.8M is going to buy a lot more this year than it would have in any other year. This year, the 3.8 is going to have more value.

Everyone knew what Klef was going to do on the powerplay. He telegraphs his passes so much its impossible not to.

but it makes the team significantly worse at EV. Nurse is superior 5v5 player and Bear is just as good on the PP as Krug. It literally makes no sense to sign Krug. He doesn’t add any improvement than what we have currently on the roster and he makes the team worse 5v5 while costing a stupid amount of money.

Where's Brandon Manning when you need him? :sarcasm:

Bouchard would be great on the PP1 but I'd only play him 10mins or less at ES. He needs to be sheltered badly on D.
Go for it, this will be another season with a big * attached to it. Might as well see what we have in some of the young guns. Bouchard and Jones for sure, Lagesson getting some 6th/7th D time.

Let the ones further away stay away for the season, Broberg, Samorukov. I wouldn't call them over for TC to be honest. Let them play games.

Bite the bullet and wait for next off-season.

When was the last time we had a top 10 scoring dman in the league? Yeah we don't need guys like that!

Stop using +/- to gauge individual performance. The Nurse/Bear pairing saw McDavid time. Klefbom's +/- was heavily impacted by SHGA and ENGs. Assuming Klefbom's minutes will be easily replaced is foolish. He was one of the busiest defensemen in the league last season.
