Meanwhile what does the defence look like?

Completely depends on what you can get for Eberle, Yakupov, 1 of Reinhart/Nurse....

Also depends on if you dip into the UFA market again (especially if you've already landed Lucic, which would be a coup)

Maybe:

Klefbom-Hamonic
Sekera-Demers
Davidson-Severson/Pysyk
(one of Reinhart/Nurse) (NHL vet type like Z. Redmond)

Is your top six when it's all said and done?

Lots of D combinations could be done though.

Don't forget that Sekera is signed until 2019-2020 at 5.5. That contract will be baaddd by then. I'd be happy to get rid of it for a Hamonic's contract. Will give us more room to add UFAs while keeping the young core together.

Sekera also has a NMC and wanted it for his family to have some stability. Doubt he waives to go to another new city next year. Ideally I'd like to see the defence look something like this next year.

Goligoski-Hamonic
Klefbom-Vatanen
Sekera-Reinhart
Gryba

That defence allows us to move Nurse and Davidson. We also have to dump Fayne somewhere.

St. Louis would never do that deal but I would do both so C.

Just B. I run after being offered B.

I feel like Hall is an important driver and not the one to move. I also worry about Pietrangelo's future level of quality...still should be solid but some of the possession numbers dropped this year. I really don't want to move Hall. Think he wants to win here.

If that's Hall's true value, we are going to never leave this basement. That's the value I'd expect out of Eberle+ maybe.

You take C and make sure those papers and signed as quick as possible. Yelling out "no trade backs" like a third grader.

Anyone who wouldn't do either of those deals at this point would be insane

A) St. Louis will never EVER offer that. They don't need a scoring winger and Hall doesn't get you in the ballpark of Pietrangelo valuewise. The only way you get St. Louis listening is if the Oilers win the Matthews lottery. Hall has had 2 subpar seasons in a row and has Oiler stink on him, his value is likely much less than Oiler fans think which is probably why Chia won't deal him.
B) Chia does that in a New York minute. That's highway robbery to be quite honest especially when taking contracts into consideration. Ultimately, I think we're talking Klefbom or Nurse for Hamonic. Whether or not Chia does it is another question.

Wait, there are a couple of posters turning down Hall for Pietrangelo? My eyes must be deceiving me because that can't be right.

Where would this team have finished this year with a healthy McDavid?
(Not actual line combos, or pairings, just a list)

LW C RW
Hall McDavid Draisaitl
Pouliot Backes Stempniak
Maroon Letestu Kassian
Hendricks Lander Khaira

Sekera Hamonic
Davidson Vatanen
Nurse Fayne

Yeah i like the idea of paying $7 million for a 3rd line winger.

Defense would still be a complete joke.

Ok then switch pouliot/maroon with Lucic... Does that make you feel better?

He already addressed what the defense would look like if you read the other posts. The D didn't look like a joke.

I think Chia should also really go hard after Pietrangelo, maybe even OEL, definitely Burns, even if he's just a year away from FA... I'd like to see them go for a tier higher than just the Vatanens, Cecis or whatever else, these sort of middling, not overly established young guys... that's what I would call "settling"... Hamonic would most definitely be nice but not at the price of Hall, not a chance.

A damn shame the Oilers don't have a single stud coming up through the ranks on the blueline.

Stiff price for us on the Pietro deal but we'd have to consider it.

Hall deal is terrible for us. Severson is a bottom pair defender, Quenneville will be lucky to be a 3rd line player (yes I watched him lots this season) and a second is useless to a team like the Oilers.

I highly doubt Yakupov gets a first rounder at this point.

I like the signings but I highly doubt we can afford to sign Lucic and Eriksson.

Just my 2 cents.

Probably terrible, bottom 8 maybe bottom 5. The bottom 9 is awful with no offense (Maroon isn't going to drive a line) and the defense is a mild upgrade. Klefbom and Hamonic are a wash so all we added was Vatanen. He isn't going to help us keep the puck out of the net. Davidson will probably be a flash in the pan and not be as good next season (hope I'm wrong) but either way he isn't a top 4 defender on a good team.

I don't expect that much movement at all but adding veteran grit on the wings, established defenders is and has been the priority for years.

If chia refilled the pool and hit homeruns at FA I'd probably pirouette across the contry and right into Chias office to shake his hand.

Naturally those moves would somehow make us worse.

Drai+1st is too steep a price to pay. I would LOVE to get Pietro but that is a big over payment. We need the depth and lose our skilled size up front. I would trade 1 or the other (much rather trade the pick) but unless Doughty, EK or Ekblad is coming back no way both go together.

Like I said though, those aren't actual lines or pairings. Several of those guys could be moved up and down the lineup at least for a shift or two. I'm trying to be as pessimistic as possible with trades so I'm not an overvaluing homer, and provide balance between O and D, Youth and Vets, Size and Skill, etc.
What if it looked more like this:

Maroon / McDavid / Draisaitl
Hall / Backes / Stempniak
Pouliot / Letestu / Kassian
Hendricks / Lander / Khaira

Klefbom / Hamonic
Sekera / Vatanen
Davidson / Fayne
Nurse
