Would he be playing in the SHL in a normal year? as in are there more players in the SHL right now with the NHL postponed that are keeping him in the Allsvenskan?

Yeh. But not because of numbers but because of contractual terms.

He had SHL offers.

However, as he does not have an SHL contract he cannot go on loan to the SHL short-term. It would have had to be a year long loan, which meant he would not have been able to go to North America once the season starts. So he went to Allsvenskan. Same reason several legit NHLers are in Allsvenskan right now.

Wonder what his reasoning is?

He has no chance at making the Flyers roster this year (if he was a RHD, that would be another story once Niskanen retired), and why chance an AHL shutdown when you can play in the SHL (and the girls are much hotter).

Of course, with 200 SHL games under his belt, he might want to play in the AHL to acclimate to the NA game as well as give Flyer FO people a closer look (especially AV on his off days) and set himself up to compete for a starting job in 2021-22.

He wants to play in the AHL if it starts... and be over in North America to be closer to the NHL.

I dont think it would be crazy for him to come in and be Phantoms best Dman... and then if a player or two go down he is in the NHL.

Though on the RD topic he has played RD for 70% of this season and tbh has probably played more RD than LD over career even though a lefty.

Being in Allsvenskan just keeps options open. Same reason several others are there.

AV has made it clear that he prefers LHD/RHD pairs if possible.
Though a LHD who plays RHD (Gus) seems to be option 2.

So while playing RHD will help Hogberg's chances of making the team in the future, if he was a RHD, he might be pushing Friedman for a spot this year.
