Seravalli said he liked our package better than NJs for Meier

We offered an overwhelming package for EP40

We offered a futures based package that Friedman said should have taken (of course that is hindsight).

We can only make really good offers, we can’t force the other team accept it. It doesn’t sound like we aren’t offering deals that are yes worthy.

Can’t imagine the Canes front office is happy with Vancouver that their sieve group would leak the names Carolina was offering

Has anyone pointed out yet that this move is essentially the canes paying peanuts and getting a free pick to make an eastern conference playoff team worse?

why the hell did toronto do this?
Toronto downgraded GMs. Their GM still believes in old school hockey where skating isn’t as important as grabbing and hitting. He has some belief that physicality is the only reason they aren’t good.

There are 31 other GMs out there also making offers, desperately trying to improve their teams.

It's not a conspiracy. It's math.
And yet media journalists have admitted that we've made very good offers both times for both high tier players we've tried to acquire and still have been passed over.

Seravalli even admitted he liked ours for New Jersey better.

What's the sense in sending Slepets away? Canes apparently are 41/50 in contracts currently, so it wasn't due to contract amount constraints (plus obviously he's not even signed onto a contract). This is other shoe business again, because so far Canes didn't gain but goodwill here?

DATETRADE DETAILS

Ilya Lyubushkin ($687,500 retained - 50%) · $687,500

Sum: $687,500
Change: +$687,500
Trade

Anaheim Ducks Acquire:
Logo of the Anaheim Ducks

From TOR:
2025 3rd round pick (TOR)

Sum: $0
Change: -$1,375,000
Trade

Carolina Hurricanes Acquire:
Logo of the Carolina Hurricanes

Slepets will never sniff the NHL.

Agreed on the leak, the one thought I had about that is if the names involved are common names we’re offering right now. Not that it makes it right at all but maybe the media is looser with guys everyone can have? That would frustrate me about Necas who I think is pretty important. If they know his range and have decided against it he’s probably being offered around, as is KK.

They were the same with Lindy and Hanifin for the week they had their meetings right before that draft.

Journalists are not GMs.

Teams have relationships. Every deal has its own unique parameters. There are plenty of reasonable explanations that are not "everyone is out to get the Carolina Hurricanes".

There are two more retention slots that we are allowed to use in trades. If the only reasonable trades available beyond Pettersson are for depth guys, I wonder if they plan to use them to get a couple more penny stocks in this upcoming draft. It may be deeply unsexy, but you just never know with the lower rounds. Usually you come up with nothing, but sometimes you get something very interesting.

Isn’t this year’s draft very weak?
