wierdest thing stolen- phone battery or a single shoe
most money stolen- $230 (i had just gotten back from a casino)
other things stolen include a
spare blade, jersey, L2 stick, gloves with no palms, $10, $20, a debit card

and to make densetsu happy my friends car was broken into

One time playing drop in hockey at Michigan State I came out of the shower and some guy is packing my helmet into his bag and is ready to leave. I said, what are you doing with my helmet? He's like oh, I thought it was mine.

Well, you already have a helmet in your bag and it is a white cooper with a full cage and mine is a black CCM with a half visor; I see how you could get them mixed up!


Another time, (at UBC) I come out of the shower, everyone is gone except me and my shoes are gone! I thought, who the ******* steals old runners? It turned out that one of the other players grabbed them thinking someone had forgotten them. Who leaves without their shoes?

as was I. I chalked it up as a loss after two weeks. The first week I *****ed and moaned because I didn't have a helmet for ice and that I'd have to throw a visor on my inline helmet in order to play ice. The place we played at was known for it's humidity, so visors fogging up was a regular thing, which is why I didn't wear one for that league. The second week was more accepting the loss. After our game, I remember not caring if we won or loss (we won that night) , but my comments were mostly about my helmet, like "Who the hell would want my nasty sweaty 10 year old Jofa?"

To this day, I have no idea who took it. The league I was playing in usually carries the same people year after year, minus a few rookies who would eventually stick around and play in the league the following year. I only mention that as being relevant because it's very few and far between where somebody loses something since we all look out for each other.

Well, of course I'm not happy that your friend had his car broken into... but on the upside, it does make for a good PSA. If a dozen people learn from this and it saves them the hassle of having their valuables stolen, then it's not all bad.

What'd they lose? Was their wallet in there? When I had mine stolen at the gym I was immediately on the phone canceling everything.

Last night at my ball hockey game, some arsehole was trying to break into our cars. It's an outdoor rink, and we could literally see him doing this. We called a Fake T.O. and the ref used his cell to call the police. They were there before the end of the period. Turns out the guy was some crackhead looking for anything.

Weird too, the area it's in not a bad area.

Just a little tip, if you can't carry it with you or be completely sure that it is safe, just leave it in your car. You might want to have like 5 bucks in your bag in case you want buy a drink or some food.

I played roller hockey with my jeans on before. I left my wallet in my back pocket, and my debit ended up with a crack right down the middle of it. It's better than getting my wallet stolen since the bank replaced the card with no problem.

Wow one has to wonder if it is even worth it stealing just $3. That was pathetic.

Best of luck in the future at the rinks. I am sure I've had nothing stolen in years because I leave the valuables in the glove box in the car before going in.

It is truly sad that people have to live that way.

Yeah I just started laughing, but I was yelling at the guy at the front desk telling him he owes me $3 or I'm suing. He thought I was serious.

I came back to the dressing room after a game and there was 10 bucks missing out my wallet, and my habs hat. It was only a bud light hat but it kinda pissed me off cause I had to buy a few cases to get it, plus the 24 (with a buddy) the night before and I was hurting that morning.

Kind of a funny story too.
I had had my gear airing out on the back step, and went out to throw it in the car and there was a massive dog near it. This dog picked up my shin pad and took off through the back field lol. Mind you it was the middle of February and all I had on was a pair of shorts, had just planned on running to the car. So I'm chasing to dog through the field and through peoples yards in just shorts and shoes, the ground was covered in snow. The kind of snow that is shell on top but ya just break right through it. Anyway, the dog stops in a yard a little while later and just leaves my shin pad, but my legs were all cut up from the hard snow ahah. Good time.

P.S. general rule, always pay for your game BEFORE you get on theice, in case the room is broken into.

I've never seen a rink that has lockers, or any form of lock on anything. And the one that has the latch for a lock of some sort doesn't provide the lock because the players *****ed they can't get back if they need something.

Not 100% effective, because (at least from my Edmonton experiences):

1. Most rinks that do have locks provide their own locks, so the (potentially corrupt) rink attendants have keys to every room.
2. Teammates can also be less than honest... "oops I gotta get my mouthguard, gimme the key for a sec" and voila, access to all the wallets.
3. Many rinks share showers between two rooms, and lots of times guys forget to lock the door to the shower. Or the shower door latch is very simple and can be jimmied open with ease.
4. In drop-in / shinny games, you can't lock the door because you don't know if/when another guy is going to come.

Individual lockers in sight of the ice surface, or in a high-traffic public area, is the best solution IMO.

#2- it sucks to not trust your team mates. Change the guys you play with.

Change the guys you play with? Seriously? .... because ONE guy is a thief?

As for the leaving the stuff in the car and fearing it being broken into .... do we play hockey in a Ghetto or what? Lockeroom theft is a bit different than breaking into a car to steal money or other valuables .... usually the cars left unlocked have their change stolen or whatever.

Car stereos and the like ... do have a window smashed in to get or whatever but really that is a bit more than rifling someone's ppockets while they are playing hockey.

Your stuff is safer in your glove box than in your pants pocket underneath the bench you dressed at in a lockeroom.

I've been leaving stuff in my car for safety for 20 years or so. I think worrying about your car being broken into is being a worry wart and not necessary.

Like I said if you are playing hockey in crackhead central where there wouldn't be a rink to begin with in a slum then I could see being *THAT* cautious but seriously folks for real?

I won't deny that keeping your stuff in your car is probably safer than the locker room. But have your car broken into once, and your perspective on what's safe changes quite a bit.

From Our association a hobo walked into the dressing room that was unlocked and stole a jersey at an away game and then they saw him walking downtown with it on and one of the coaches went to get it back and the hobo pulled a screwdriver out hahaha but no one was hurt LOL

couple of things I would like to add.
1 I had about $100 stolen from my bag, forgot I had it on me until I was half dressed, this was at a pickup session. although I know most of the guys well, when you become complacent thats when sht happens.
2 I now keep valuables in my truck, yes someone can break into my truck in the parking lot, but its insured and it takes balls to break into something(house, car, whatever)
I believe it does not take balls to take stuff from your bag or pocket in an unsupervised room so for me the lesser of two evils is to leave the stuff in the truck. its never a problem during mens league games cause we lock the door when we leave.
