Money. It's all about money. Lots of tax dollars from those liquor sales.

I had a rough day at work. Just an absolute mess. Most people have been decent and understandable but the pieces of trash really come out in times like this. I was just about to leave work, saw we had a few customers out front so I figured I'd call over the next guy in line and ring him through and get him on his way. He looked like he wanted to cause **** but I figured maybe he's had a rough day too. So I ask him what I can do for him, he tells me what he needs, I ring him through. He walks right up and hands me some cash, then starts freaking out because I don't have gloves on (we don't sell food or produce or anything here) because I had just washed my hands and was about to leave. Plus it's not mandatory to wear gloves. He starts to leave and won't take his change (about $19), but then realizes he wants what he came for and I never went out back and got it for him yet, turns back around, still yelling about me not wearing gloves. NEITHER WAS HE. He comes right up to the counter and I say "shouldn't you be 6 feet back?" in a pretty condescending tone at this point, point out he doesn't have gloves either and told him to forget it because he's not getting anything. I then threw his money at him. He flipped me off, twice. Other customers were just laughing at the guy and shaking their head. I'm really running out of patience.
Yikes, that bloke needs to just go home and take a nap instead of being a tosser to everyone that is also trying to make it through this, sorry you even had to encounter that mate, even if you're a grizzled veteran with that work, no one likes that sort of shit.

And yeah, the government is clearly trying to justify it was an essential service when really, it's to line their own pockets, shady af. I feel bad for those blokes that are being told "You're doing an amazing job providing an essential service!!" - translation - "We are at home, lol at you wankers make us money."

Weird direction we are going but it's always mutual. Sometimes them sometimes me...let's move on please, feels weird talking about this in a virus thread.

Hahah, no big deal. It was just a little part of your post I found interesting.

It aint the spanish flu but it's still serious and spreadable and kills quite a bit of people.
You bring up an interesting and debatable premise. The 1918 influenza pandemic occurred in, well, 1918. It sounds like even the best of the experts conclude we really aren't sure how to measure that flu's case fatality rate. Here is an read on the subject I thought was enlightening: Covid-19 Is Not the Spanish Flu

This article is a small case study in why you shouldn't always trust the media or authority generally. Here an objectively bad and illogical statistic gets repeated enough to where it becomes "fact" by simple virtue of "I can cite it from someone else."

The media is also staggeringly bad with numbers and basic quantitative reasoning. They are often the grown-up versions of the kids who would take pride in cheating on their math homework. I know successful media figures and went to a university that had an elite undergrad journalism program; I'm not making this up.

I didn't see the entire presser today but I believe Dr.Birx suggested the initial model that came out of the UK where by 500,00 could lose their lives was revised to a much much lower level (20,000) I believe of people of the UK. If that's the case that would really be good news. Again I didn't see all of what was said, but it sounded encouraging.

"Yo go isolate in your home"
"Lol just a flu, stop listening to the media sheep! it's all a hoax"

If you need to get out go for a car ride. In the early AM go for a walk or bike ride when everyone is sleeping in. On a sunny day sit on your deck or yard and soak up the sun. Or go for a car ride to a lake that has very little people. I REALLY hate this social distancing as much as the next guy, I really like to be around people and hug girls ( co workers and customers ;) ) but damn.

This is the type of moron we are dealing with:

https://nypost.com/2020/03/26/21-year-old-who-posted-about-not-social-distancing-gets-coronavirus/

... and there are millions upon millions of them just in NA.

Is this because they changed their minds on “herd immunity” and locked everyone down?

If the cruise lines wanna come to the US taxpayers with their hand out crying about how hard it is... I say they should have saved up for a rainy day! Ate out less! Abstained from that second Americano at their godless Starbucks!

I can't help but notice that cruise lines have a cell phone and an iPad and spend entirely too much time on social media, too. Money and time that could have been better spent elsewhere!

let's don't even start on that avocado toast nonsense. pull yourself up by yer bootstraps, ffs.

The Canadian doctor said baby making should be fine and encouraged, said that Covid-19 can't be spread, I have sent that article to my gf several times, she still won't come into the room to break my quarantine.

Wankers, these Canadian doctors. Are Canadian doctors even real doctors?

that sucks, but good on you not taking his crap. people are so willing to seize the opportunity to be their worst selves, even in the best of times.

I'm on day 15 of self quarantine. I started the day of the Pens-CBJ cancellation. I only go out twice a week for supplies as I have most of what I need already in place. My community (or at least the immediate area) seems to be doing very well and adhering to the mandate. I don't see anyone congregating near my residence or up and down my street. Even when I go to the local gas station, at least during the last three occasions, I was the only customer there. I try to go off hours to minimize my potential exposure, wash the hands a lot etc,. But even so, that place usually is very busy late at night. I think a lot of us are taking the necessary precautions. Hopefully some of the youngsters out there will heed the warnings and follow suit.

I spent my nice day today getting the deck up and running, top on canopy, some staining...to have it all for not now that it's raining...and I can't enjoy it tomorrow.

Stuff is getting done around the house I'd be procrastinating doing. Next nice day I'll do the carpets I do every spring. The List of UM is getting smaller. Except what my kids set me back each day.

I think the self quarantining will be far more problematic when the nicer weather gets here. It's not that bad staying in when you're dealing with rain or unpleasant temperatures. When the weather gets nice however that's where the self discipline really kicks in or conversely might falter. Although there's really not much to do anyhow, most restaurants, movie theaters, casinos, sporting events etc are shut down.

Quarantine only works if the government wants it to work, you can't have "essential places" open, only hospitals should be open, it'll cost some money to get people supplies, but in the end, you're not losing lives and other things. This will keep getting worse, you think going to a grocery store to get supplies is going to be safe for anyone? Unless every place sanitizes everything every time they touch something, the time this thing stays on surfaces is nuts enough when you consider the other ways people can get it.

There are more cases in the US than the rest of the world right now, a lot of people scared to get tested, spreading it that way, the cost of care is too high, losing your job is too harmful for their families, etc. Canada is no different, if anything, Canada is being even more lax with their rules and I am more surprised the cases aren't rising as fast. The only benefit of a lower population than the US, but the issue in Canada is the backlog of tests, when those all get pushed through, those numbers are going to keep jumping in double to triple digits per day as well.

Everyone wants to be a f***ing hero right now, no one wants to be smart.

Well, it's just getting outside, and I do have the kids clubhouse, too, which is like a tiny two story home. Not your typical kids clubhouse. It's kind of decked out. Just another space to use to break things up. It's just better if it isn't raining.

The Irony here is, the less discipline and pragmatism we exhibit now, the more restrictions and for a longer duration we'll be subjected to moving forward.

We all need to do our part. I know I am, and it seems like a lot of you are as well.

Well I mean, I tested positive for it last weekend so I kind of had to be very smart about it.
