Hope that quells your concerns, enjoy your Christmas Festivus.

It doesn't quell anything I'm afraid, but you have a good one, too.

Respect the guidelines, keep the commentary around the NHL and hockey, and keep the political driven commentary out of it. And yes, that includes "lol emoji CNN" and disparaging a treatment aimed at keeping people out of the hospitals (what that has to do with our NHL players, I dunno, that's why it doesn't belong here).

And I'm probably making a mistake keeping this all up for public view, but in a show of good faith I'm trying to be transparent about our guidelines and let everyone know we're trying to keep the conversation open but it's really easy to slip into debates about public health issues and politics if it's not well managed. Cheers for hanging in there with me.

If you're asymptomatic, that means you're not feeling ill and therefore would not be doing anything like staying home, fluids, and anything else.
Which makes me wonder why they don't revisit the protocol for asymptomatic players.

Pausing the league is a short delay of being right back where they were before the pause. Ice rink design isn't changing, so having players sharing the same air with essentially zero ventilation will continue to spread contagion of this particular strain rapidly.

It's not as if fans are tested to attend games either. So once the league is done pretending, they'll either ignore asymptomatic positive tests, or they'll have to shut down the season altogether. And their wallets won't stand for that.

Now to be clear, I'm not saying that's necessarily the right move from an ethical standpoint. But this is something that spreads like wildfire - even among those vaccinated - but has mild to no symptoms. So there's zero chance of pausing their way out of this scenario, and there's very little chance of a medical scenario dire enough to force a permanent shutdown. Which leaves the approach of pushing through it as the most likely outcome.

I'm as cynical as anyone about the for-profit medical industry, but if you guys are implying there's no need for treatments...

We're going to end up with another locked thread because this isn't how I'm spending my Christmas break.
Is questioning the profit motives of companies political? Heck, there are multiple people who question Chris Ilitch's profit motives....

My point was that there may be already existing medications or compounds that may help alleviate symptoms or help in recovery. For example, fucoidan has been mentioned in several studies, and some believe that's why Asian death rates are lower. (We eat seaweed, lol.) But you can buy fucoidan on Amazon so Pfizer can't make any money, lol.

In Cell Studies, Seaweed Extract Outperforms Remdesivir in Blocking COVID-19 Virus | Science at Rensselaer

I'm an engineer, not a doctor but I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Also, my dad was a professor of pharmaceutical science, but he's dead now (pre-COVID) so he has no opinion on the matter. Would have been an interesting conversation though.

@ButtKrak I know your post wasn't directed at me. The allegation is upto interpretation, which is often highly subjective, in all fairness to everyone. I've seen countless examples that could be misconstrued.

I'd give your post a like but you'll have to settle for :thumbu:

also, on the Holiday Inn Exp. DadJoke, your VIP membership card is en route.

sorry to hear about your Dad, mine is gone too.

Back On Topic: even with the toughest SoS% upcoming, the Wings have 2-5 games in hand on much of the league which works in our favor for a PO push. The 3.5wk break in Feb. will be great, while BOS etc. have to make up ground. Hopefully Vrana is back by Feb. 5th-10th to get some reps in & quality practice time. Special teams need the practice badly.

Here's something political though....
NIH sponsored my green card (through my dad who was employed there), so if you don't like me, you have the US government to blame for my presence here. LOL.

With this topic? Yes, it often is. Horse medicine, etc. I don't want to get into it.

And what does any of that have to do with the Red Wings? If you can't draw a straight line between it and the Wings, why not head over to the COVID forum that people are so expertly avoiding to keep posting COVID stuff here. You can talk all about your alternative treatments and big pharma there.

Yes, it is political. And this really is not the platform for having the discussion on effectiveness of this drug vs. that drug or cynicism about Big Pharma's role in charging too much or what not. Those are good discussions to have, but let's be honest, the likelihood of the argument turning sideways into an uncontrollable mess is incredibly high because everyone is going to have incredibly strong opinions. Like Bench, Winger, and the rest of the mod team have said... there are places on HFboards to delve into this discussion (the COVID 19 specific board) or political subreddits and other boards around and share your viewpoint. The place to do it is not the Red Wings board and certainly not in every topic that involves a player being affected by the protocols, becoming sick, or whatever.

I have come to greatly enjoy debating a wide range of topic with you guys. It's been kind of something to help keep me as sane as I can be during my financial audit times at work, the stay at home stuff, and dealing with my little sister's asshole puppy (He's actually a sweetheart and is just super rambunctious, but sometimes that shit gets annoying). I've also certainly had my share of things I'm simply never going to see eye to eye with people on.

I am kind of happy for hockey players , they going to spend time with families for Christmas and I hope for New year also, but I also don't understand why NHL needs to get tested every day while medical workers who actually working with a sick people don't get tested

You do seem a tad stressed lately. Maybe a reassuring gift would help? :D

This should make life slightly easier for some players.

for those that watch the news (per CNN)

Pfizer Covid pill: FDA authorizes first oral antiviral to treat coronavirus infection - CNN

(who didn't see this coming?)
Who didn't see medical advancements coming? The short-sighted.

Pfizer is making bank off of COVID, that is undeniable, but they are also helping save millions upon millions of lives at no cost to you.

I read that the pill won't be readily-ish accessible until the end of January, but hopefully for pro-athletes and for the common person this pill is able to combat the destructive internal organ force that is COVID.

I may not agree, but I'm dropping the topic out of respect for you and your task here.

I will still maintain that it is the government's fault, specifically NIH, that I'm here. If not for NIH who sponsored my green card, I'd probably be jerking off to hentai anime porn in a small apartment in Japan somewhere instead of cruising a hockey forum.

I would not want to be an NHL scheduler right now trying to figure out how to get all these games in during the 3 week olympic break
