Why do we need a guy in his mid thirties who produces zero offence on 3rd line minutes and an under 50% faceoff percentage when we have much younger players (Lindholm, Gauthier) who are better in almost every way?
Because they are not better 4th line players in any way .Plus he plays for 1 million a year 1 year at a time with a smile on his face .

Not a big crop of good players...

If we were to add some to make the best roster possible this is all that'd be here.

JvR - Matthews - Nylander
Marleau - Tavares - Kessel
Steen - Kadri - Marner
Grabner - Bozak - Kapanen
Hyman/Brown/Boyle

Our offence would improve. Our Defence would but it still wouldn't be a wowww

Happy to see Uncle Leo and Matt Martin doing well. Seem to be really well received in NY. The sort of players that we should be looking for at the trade deadline.

At their contract price? 0% chance.

Sure. I noted that they would be the "Sort"... not saying specifically bringing them back. 4 year term for Komarov is just too long.

However, with all the unwarranted crap he took here... it's nice to see him doing well.

Don’t miss any of these guys. Really like how well our 4th line has played the last few games. Gauthier has been throwing a few hits and Moore’s speed is creating some scoring chances.

Bad contract though.
Term may be a bit long, but he's just getting what he got in Toronto. Apparently there were multiple teams looking for him, so that pushed the price up.

Leading the team (forwards) in +/-, and would be fourth on the Leafs, and with more hits than the top two Leafs combined.

he's not doing all that well. scoring chances are 152-220 with him on the ice (40%). and didn't you say scoring chances were the most important criteria to look at in the thread about the Leafs defense?

I sometimes find these stats odd.

Not doing well in "scoring chances" with him on the ice (I assume that is 5-on-5).

On the other hand, goals with him on the ice is different. 27 goals for (fourth best on the team), and only 14 against (second best).

Which do you think is more important - scoring chances or goals?

in terms of winning games? goals, definitely. In terms of tracking his performance and anticipating how his play might look in the future? scoring chances

We'll, it's just another season where some of the numbers, and 'experts', are saying he's going to be terrible, and just another season where he isn't.

Can you offer any explanation why his predictive stats are so bad, yet his real stats are so good?

By the way, you didn't answer whether the stat you quoted was 5-on-5 or not.

Phaneuf -4 last night. Komarov +2 with 1g 1a.

Losing sure follows Phaneuf around a lot. It's like he's built an entire career getting paid as an upper echelon defenseman based on his first three years in the league but is otherwise probably not much more than a Ron Hainsey level defenseman.

Not talking about this thread, but funny to see how the 'Egocock screwed over Josh Leivo' comments have pretty much stopped since his hot start in Vancouver.

8-3-11 in 41 games and 0-0-0 in the five games before his injury. We do not want for fourth liners, but I think trading him at least a year earlier would have fetched a little more and been the humane thing to do.

Connor Carrick is 1-3-4 in 10 after missing two months with an injury.

Brendan Leipsic is 33-3-7-10 with Los Angeles, does he count?

It would have been nice to be able to keep JvR to patch up that LW depth (think he regrets not going to Anaheim or Calgary?), but aside from that everyone has been replaced.

Lets be factual ok?

In a thread whose supposition was that goaltending wasn’t bailing the Leafs Defense out more than other contenders, Scoring Chances are more important... not most, more... to consider when evaluating.

When looking at a specific player... a 3rd line lead defending shut down kind of role on a team that doesn’t have a powerful offense.... you are surprised that there would be more scoring chances against when he is on the ice?

His entire line has the same picture.
