Well we hated Grubauer and Kuemper so maybe so. Hopefully this allows us to keep Nichuskin is the biggest thing
I get why it was done. I wouldn't have signed Kuemper to big money either.
Georgiev is clearly worse than both of those guys though. If you hated them, ohhh you're going to hate Georgiev.
In a draft like this, I would agreeI:
1. did not
2. would rather have 2 3rds and a 5th than a 2nd.
The Rangers didn't have much leverage, everyone knew Georgiev wanted out, and his QO was too high for the Rangers. They had to move him and that was known. For a guy that has regressed over the past couple years, I'd say they did quite well, given the circumstances.
If nothing else they have some ammunition to move up in those middle rounds if they see someone dropping that they really like.
I think there is reasonable evidence that he performed better in a starters role. The times Igor was out for more than a few games were his best stretches. If hes starting for them, they aren't getting there.
The large majority of Georgiev's career shows him to be a below average goalie. I don't know why people expect that to change now that hes on the move. Do I think focus/motivation being stuck behind a legend and then another guy who looks well on his way to becoming one was a factor? 100%. Do I also remember him single handedly keeping opponents in (or even blowing) games by being awful on the semi regular? Also yes.
It's not like we're some goalie graveyard like is Philly or NJ is becoming where you take a guy out of a shitty situation and find gold.

Not inconceivable that he raises his game as a full time starter.
That being said. He was never getting that opportunity here
I thought so too, but his save percentage as a backup and when getting regular work was virtually identical. Someone posted the numbers.
He legit regressed each season he was here though. His rookie season was actually really good considering how bad that team was. Sophomore effort was really up and down, he was bad during the short covid season and was even worse last season.
TBH only dumb move he has made is signing Nemeth. Everything else has been good to great.
I do think some of the high prices people say that other players will cost in trade is often overstated. One thing this proves is that a lot of people on this Board are clueless at times. Conversation until now was that Rangers would be lucky to get any picks let alone 3 for him. Drury has proven so far he is very much qualified for this position. I would not under estimate his ability to pull of a great trade for a 2 center. Let the fun begin.
