no faith in Hrivik, Jensen or Gerbe to make this team. All three guys are dime a dozen players

This is a good point, but Gerbe has good PK skills and offers something more than the other two. Unless we trade forwards for a D-man, I cannot see all 3 of Vesey, Buch and Pirri making the team, which pushes Grabner down to the 4th line. Combine that with Fast being a lock for the 4th line, that leaves 1 spot. Either Jooris or Gerbe will take that spot until Lindberg is back

Clendening's been bouncing around and his last two season have not been all that productive offensively. He's not a big guy either. He's a puck moving D with some defensive issues.

Maybe I have more faith in McIlrath than you do.

Clendening's 14-15 season was spent with four different teams across the NHL and AHL. From Rockford to Chicago to Vancouver to New York. :amazed: That's a lot of travel for anyone. Even his 15-16 season had a lot of travel too, from Pittsburgh to WBS to Edmonton. His point total took a huge dip in the 14-15 regular season probably because of that, but he put up semi-decent playoff numbers in the AHL with Utica, who made it to the Calder Cup finals. At least they look alright for a defenseman. He played in all their playoff games. And 6' 200 lbs seems like a pretty good size to me. He's not Mat Bodie.

If he likes him so much, why did he get sent down to the AHL for Glass when he was playing well last season?

If he likes him so much, why doesn't he marry him?

Because Glass is his mistress.

Glass played over whoever because of grit and "reliability". For whatever reason, actual hockey play evaluation goes out the window when it comes to Glass vs. anyone.

Remember the legend Mark Arcobello? Playing for 4(!) NHL teams in a single season, being claimed off waivers 3 times

Might see a dustup in this pre-season tilt.

Isles are dressing Chimera and Boulton and Schempp.

Rangers have McIlrath, and Chris Brown. Jooris is also a gamer.

Boulton is one tough SOB. He's a super nice guy but I cant even believe he is still playing at the NHL level.

Stoked to have some actual Rangers hockey to discuss. 3rd line will be interesting to see how they can handle tougher competition than Traverse. I really hope that 4th line is just to get a look at those 3 guys before cutting all 3 of them.

i am usually optimistic about all the young guys,
but to me, til he chnages my mind, Clendenning is Etem on D

i expect him to slide thou waivers easily,
and be passed over by Paliotta when we recall a Right D

if only Bodie had his size
or he had Bodie's hockey sense, passing ability and focus

Very excited about Kovacs. Remember not being sure at all where he would be playing this year until recently, and all he's done since is impress the crap out of the org. Should be a fun player the next few years.

Will wait before I get amped on the 20-93-89 line. They were great in practices against ECHL players and AHL goalies. That's great, but that's a long shot from who they'd face over the course of the season. Here's hoping they keep clicking tho.

Eh it's two good NHLers and a highly skilled prospect. Maybe it doesn't work but that's the combo I think you want. Without Nash and Zucc and Step in the mix it's tough to say what might be the best lineup though

So they are planning on using Pirri on the PP at the point. Makes sense, turning him into the new Ales Kotalik. 4th line PP specialist.

We should all be hoping that this is Clendening's time to break out. Feel like I'm the only one optimistic he could turn into a cheap right handed puck mover. He's still younger than McIlrath.

Land of no calls..
I really liked Clendening in his draft year and he seemed to be progressing nicely in his first couple pro seasons. Then the wheels kinda came off. A couple people here in Pittsburgh said there were some concerns over his ability to process the game at an NHL pace, and he was a little roughed from bouncing between organizations. Take that with a grain of salt of course, but maybe some stability on the east coast will do him some good.

I'm expecting nothing out of Clendenning..maybe 7th D material, but if he shows more than that then great. If he's this seasons Matt Hunwick, that's fine too.

Setting an alarm because I know I'm going to forget there's actual hockey on until like halfway through the 3rd period.

I think Clendening having played on no less than 7 teams over the last 2 seasons has to be taken into account. Gotta be tough for anyone to get situated under those conditions. Still, there's some encouraging stuff if you look through his advanced stats.
