As if $9 million is chump change? I need to get that crystal ball - mine's defective.

+1.
No it's not chump change. But let me see your crystal ball predicting that the Devils/Pk would struggle this much come December as to not justify that trade. They took on the whole 9 million because they didn't have to give up a prime asset that way. None of you bring that up when talking about the 9 mil. PK didn't have a great year last year but he was one season removed from a norris trophy finalist season.

It's not chump change but it doesn't prevent the Devils from making any moves. The Devils effectively took 7.6 million in cap from that trade because they sent Santini the other way.

It’s like they all need to be re-taught the fundamental aspects of playing smart, responsible, and disciplined. Paying attention to details.

It’s like galaxy brain hockey. This is AHL level of execution.

Maybe that's why it's not a good idea to hire an AHL Coach like Hynes.

He should've stayed down there.

I really despise this group. it is so much time to move on from this core of players.. it hurts I'm done with greene , zajac, hall... I'm just done with this group... i have not more nostalgia for these guys... they are not good. the goaltending is ****.. at this point I would take a goalie for hall straight up i don't even care.. Hall has played a little better recently but who cares

A goalie for Hall would be the worst return possible.

There's a lot of revisionist history with Subban here now...he wasn't ANYWHERE NEAR this bad with Nashville and he shouldn't be washed up at his age. They didn't trade him because they were expecting him to have five points in 30 games.

i didn't watch him play.. teams don't trade good defenseman for nothing.. so i can't agree with you

How if they were good -- they would have plenty of cap space at the deadline to acquire someone else, the contract wouldn't prevent them from signing Hall nor Hischier.
If Nico's contract was on the books this year the Devils would be over the cap. If they were good and looking to resign Hall things could have gotten tight. In a cap world you need to look at opportunity cost as well.

Who says this team will ever have the budget to even spend to the cap. 9 million for someone not performing is killer

They had the budget to spend pretty darn close to the cap this year. They won't have enough players to actually pay to spend up to the cap in the next two now that they likely won't have to deal with Hall's cap number.

We are cursed now with goaltending . That’s what we get for having the best goalie in the world for years. We now have to have the worst goalies in the league to balance things out .

No they traded him because they needed a center (Duchene) more. Goodness gracious, you guys are acting like Nashville knew this drop was coming. They're smart but nobody's that doggone smart.

What kind of logic is that? The Devils knew Nico's cap hit would be 925k + bonuses this year. If they were good PK would be part of the reason why. And it still wouldn't have prevented the Devils from signing Hall. There is no penalty for being close to the cap.

You still haven't said anything concrete about what how that deal prevents the Devils from making moves in the future. Because it doesn't. If it did they would be like the other teams asking for teams to retain but instead they gave Santini off the roster so they effectively took on 7.6 mil in cap.

I’ve never disliked any devils teams in past seasons. I actually dislike this one. I have a hard time rooting for them to succeed. I think dislike is actually the wrong word...I think a better descriptor is I don’t respect them. They look like they don’t even belong in the NHL.

I’m certain the coaching staff is bush league, but it’s getting harder and harder to distinguish where that ends and shitty players along with garbage leadership and culture begins.
