Winning titles with PSG is so easy in this modern version of Ligue 1, it is hardly an accomplishment as babies can seriously manager them to a Ligue 1 title. Meaning that half of Blanc's amazing resume is already a non-factor. If that's the case, we then have to compare the manager's Europe record which is much more meaningful for a team like PSG.
True that Blanc has gone further than Emery, but both ultimately failed to reach their goal of a CL title. Just going a round or two in a tournament where we've seen upsets all the time isn't that crazy. For the record I am not calling Emery a good manager, but I am super puzzled that people would randomly take a manager who you can argue has had less success in a heartbeat.
Really?
How much titles did Tuchel win this year? 1. Out of 3.
Blanc is 9 out of 9.
There's no random. Blanc had excellent results, even in the CL with Bordeaux, topping a CL group with Bayern and Juventus. How many managers have achieved that?
And of course, there's the eye test. Blanc's teams are extremely recognizable. Few coaches print their mark on their team's play so much. Guardiola, Klopp, Bielsa (offensively for instance), Simeone, Allegri, Mourinho (defensively for instance) and Blanc. That's it.
Just by seeing a team coached by Blanc, you know who the coach is.
The only doubt I have over Blanc is whether he will be able to replicate his coaching without his assistant coach, who's now boss at St Etienne, Gasset.
