I’m not SY, but I wouldn’t bite on PLD at full price. Would PLD even want to be in DET?
When you sign a contract and have no NTC, doesn't matter what PLD wants. Now it matters on the receiving end, if PLD doesn't want to be in Detroit and is going to dog it for 2 years, that's on him and his next contract - and very unfortunate for the team that acquires him.

Sitting at a desk.
The price is way too high for him in my opinion. As of now, he is a 50 pt player, which I wouldn't be thrilled giving up a lot to acquire. Maybe he gets going, but not like he is as good as the hype he gets. Even here, some of you are saying he is better than Larkin, and to that I ask, HOW?

lol summing up PLD with “he’s a 50 pt player”

this site kills me sometimes

I'm cooling off on the idea of trading for him. I'd rather take a bet that one of Veleno, Niederbach, or Rasmussen end up a top 6 center and keep picks to keep drafting centers than trade for a guy who will give up on his team. If you saw the shift he played before he was benched you'll know what I mean.

I'd only do it for Mantha straight up, but even then I'm not real interested in a player that is this much of a problem. Who's to say he wouldn't be moody in Detroit, too?

50-point player at 56-game season is pretty good!

He was a point per game player at last playoffs. That's also pretty good!

To date he isn't a 50 in 56 guy. 1 hot playoff doesn't mean much.

PLD is another "Larkin" with worse 2 way game.
Had 61 points season playing with Panarin, that was his best, 61 points
Other 2 seasons he posted 48 and 49 points.
Why would people wanna trade valuable assets for this guy during the rebuild?

3 yr. Career 56.26 pts./82gp ...if you isolate the 1st 2 yrs w/Panarin, he's avg. 54.4pts/82gp. Last season w/o Breadman was 57.4pts/82gp pace.

His points/gp didn't take a hit w/o Panarin, but his +/- did, substantially. Didn't look at advanced stats either.

fun fact: his pts & PIM's are eerily similar every season.

Little different circumstances yeah? I think their values are closer than others, but by position and age alone, Dubois has the leg up. The one thing Mantha has going for him is that his contract is really attractive, IMO.

I think it's funny that people attribute Panarin for him having 4 more points than he was pacing for last season in the season prior. Also, Panarin's 2 lowest point total seasons were when he was on a line with Patrick Kane and people attributed having Kane on his line to him helping his point totals until he proved it in Columbus.

GMs don't usually trade within their divisions and I don't think Columbus' GM would want to see PLD play motivated against his former team this season.

Also I don't think we have the pieces to make this trade without either sacrificing our 1st this season and/or prospects. We have a good shot at a PLD caliber talent in the 2021 draft if we want Beniers.

Also also, I don't think GMSY is going to trade for a moody player who is very much half assing it (and in the youtube video from earlier no assing it.) He didn't put up with Drouin's BS or DeAngelo's BS. PLD is a good player but not the second coming of Beliveau. Do you really think Yzerman is going to put up with that shit?

Also also also, PLD is a good player when on his game but how much does he really move the needle? He was a 61 point center with Panarin on his wing and was a 57 point pace winger with (I'm assuming) Gustav Nyquist as his wing. He's likely a 50 point center on Detroit. Not this year in the shortened season. 50 points in an 82 game season with Detroit.

I would say we pass.

Also also also also...here's a 2021 UFA center list. We can make a run at a few names on this list to be our 2nd line center for a season or two and not cost us a 1st rounder.
