I don't think you can sign him for less than 5 mil and he'll for sure get that on the market after his playoff performances.
Many teams will see him as a missing piece needed to win.
He's an interesting case.
I've heard most negotiations are based on numbers. On the offensive end, his playoff numbers/performance are 1 assist in 9 games, his career numbers are 6 points in 25 games. In the regular season he had 24 points in 53 games, which is a 37 point pace.
On the one hand, how many players with those offensive numbers make 5M?
On the other hand, he's elite as defensive, shutdown center. How much is that worth? Who's a comparable?
I just hope this is the end of posters saying ge has 1goal in his last 25 or whatever games; he sucks. His value comes from what he does on the defensive end. And seeing what Tatar is, he doesn't get the teams best wingers.
I also hope he realizes he's a defensive, shutdown 3c. He's gotten enough offense on his wings to produce more than he has. His role and value are on the defensive end. Carboneau himself basically said he accepted his role as a defensive player, but in his mind he still always thought he could be a scorer like he was in Junior. If Danault wants to think that way, that's fine. As long as he accepts a defensive role - at least if he wants to do what's best for whatever team he's on.
