What current players are locks for the HoF?

Albert Pujols
Mike Trout
Clayton Kershaw
Miguel Cabrera
Justin Verlander
Max Scherzer
Zach Greinke
Yadier Molina

Not Yet: I love Joey Votto and he has all the metrics, but he's a 1B with 295 dingers and 966 RBIs. Chris Davis has that many HRs in one less season.

Molina probably isn't a lock. I would put him in the maybe category with Votto, Longoria, and Posey. McCutchen is closer to that group than you might guess off hand too.

Then you're down to the guys who are on a clear track. Betts is already at 40.2 fWAR at 28. Barring injury, he'll get there. Sale's about 2 strong years away.

I'd say no on this guy. We're turning the honor into the Hall of Good. To me the HOF is for the greats only. Barely over 200 wins while playing with mostly contending clubs. No 20 win seasons. It used to be to get in the Hall as a pitcher it was 300 wins or close to it and multiple 20 win seasons.

Agreed and good post. I just didn't want someone to post I'd forgotten Molina. His numbers aren't that great. Mauer is just a comparison.

Used to be is the key to your post. The current pitcher with the most wins is Bartolo Colon and he only has 247. A pitcher with more bWAR than all these HoFers (Palmeiro is accused of PEDs). Greinke's a lock.

Good point. I also think he's underrated. A 2B with more bWAR than all these guys and a 132 OPS+ which ties Tony Gwynn, Jackie Robinson, and beats Boggs, Carew, and Oliva. 100 bWAR is my measure of an elite HoFer.

He's MASSIVELY underrated by anyone who doesn't think he is in the top, top, TOP tier of all-timers, and especially middle infielders. He was a giant of the sport.

Wins and innings thresholds are not really a thing anymore. Saves are next. deGrom (rightfully) won a Cy Young with 10 wins.

Greinke spent 7 years with the KC Royals at their worst. Hardly played for mostly contending clubs.

Greinke is not a Hall of Fame pitcher to me. Only pitchers right now that are certain to me are Scherzer, Verlander, and Kershaw. I maybe missing someone. There are a few that are a couple seasons away from getting there (de Grom and Sale).

I think Greinke is in. He's had an exceptional career over a very long time. Should have 2 Cy Youngs if it wasn't for the year Arrieta had in 2015. Greinke had a 1.66 ERA and finished second that year. That's crazy.

I've always thought - and basically known - that being a Cardinals fan is the cushiest and easiest thing in the world of fandom. Their fanbase is pretty easily the most sensible and steady in the world, I can attest to that. They don't go too long (relatively speaking) without titles. They go out and do things that make sense more often than not. They develop prospects. They typically have good coaching and management. They are the opposite of the Flyers. I don't know how much the below will ultimately matter, but it would be typical of them to kill a move like this.
