I'm sure that's how Stevie judges a trade, that's why he traded Mantha. The Cleveland pick was also probably just a big joke on us, lol.

I'm waiting for the Phil Kessel training camp PTO. Then we can have some serious conversations about hot dogs.

If Detroit didn't trade for Ghostisbehere then Petry would be an alright acquisition.

Don’t see a place for him with the current roster filled the way it is. A trade for him involving one/some of our defenders going the other way doesn’t seem to make sense for either team.

Can definitely see Dallas pursuing him aggressively though

I don't know if it's Gostisbehere that would make Petry unnecessary.

While getting old, Petry is still a solid all around Dman that can play in most situations and was a regular fixture on the PP and PK for the Pens. Gostisbehere is closer to being a 4th forward who is great offensively and on the PP, but atrocious when it comes to actually defending. Other than some spot duty for the Coyotes, Gost has never really been trusted to kill penalties. Then you have the exact opposite in Holl, who is supposed to be a more defensive player that can PK decently, but gives you 2007 WCF game 5 OT Andreas Lilja nightmares if the puck even comes close to his stick. He'll likely never figure into the PP or offensive situations.

Petry could cover for both, although I would think Gostisbehere would still provide a bit more offense. Probably no argument that Petry could easily replace and be an improvement for whatever they have planned for Holl.

Plug Petry in at #2RD and you can move Gost down to the 3rd pairing on either side and let him get sheltered offensive assignments and be mainstay on the PP.

Walman-Seider
Maatta-Petry
Gost/Chiarot-Gost/Holl/Chiarot
Lindstrom

IMO, Gostisbehere and Petry could exist together.

Had Petry been available around the draft, he would've definitely been a better choice than blowing it on the Leafs wish.com Jonathan Ericsson and they'd still be able to sign Gostisbehere.

Ghost was UFA signing. His signing did not make the board explode at all.

I don't think Petr would make the board explode at all either, unless Chiarot goes the other way. Then it'd be more of a celebration for Chiarot leaving than for Petry.

I don't see this trade happening anyways. If Stevie wanted Petry, he would have dealt directly with Pitt, not with a team in the same division. I think a trade with Pitt would have been viable if not for the Holl signing.

I would be interested if he came cheap enough and we thought we could move Chiarot to forward. I don't hate this

DeBrincat - Larkin - Raymond
Rasmussen - Copp - Perron
Fabbri - Compher - Berggren
Chiarot - Veleno - Kostin
Sprong
Fischer

Walman - Seider
Edvinsson - Petry
Maatta - Gostisbehere
Holl
Lindstrom

I don't think Yzerman signed Holl for 3 years just so he could warm up the bench.

Or mayo. Or both. Combined. Thousand Island dressing. One a double decker hamburger. Big Mac.

Total garbage food, but I actually like the Big Mac. Along with the cancer and heart attack inducing french fries.

You buy a Big Mac every day during the week and you remove one part of it and save it. By the end of the week, you’ll have a whole nother Big Mac, but you’ll love it even more because you built it yourself

If I was gonna build my own Big Mac, I'd at least make my own burgers. I spent $100 fixing my grill this spring, gotta get my money's worth. I dunno about you guys, but I usually have at least a couple of pounds of ground round in the freezer.

And if you build it 365 days it's still taste the same and you could eat it as much as you want, win win

I think the plan could be re-unite Chiarot-Petry, from Montreal days.

If they gelled together, then both guys value could go up --> Chiarot has trade value again --> Yzerman completes a trade to open a spot for Edvinsson or Wallinder, depending of the roster situation.

We have cap space, I am not against it now that we have more depth... injuries happen, Lindstrom could be gone which to me is fine. We have a lot of cap flexibility going forward and it gives us multiple options to pair with our young defenseman coming up rather then needing to force a pairing like Chiarot and Seider.

Reunite them in Montreal then. I'd trade Chiarot for a bag of used pucks and call it good.

Unless Steve gets a trade offer he can’t refuse I think the roster is set until Training Camp

Bring him in. I'd do RHD Gustav Lindstrom, and a pick swap( 2nd for a 4th back or something like that.) They'd have to retain some money too.

Doesn't hurt to have depth, can move him at the TDL if out of playoffs... Injury happens Edvinsson or someone else can be brought up. Edvinsson could use time to heal/skate anyways after shoulder surgery, maybe give him to November/Mid October.

Jake Walman – Mortiz Seider
Ollie Maatta – Shayne Gotisbehere
(A) Ben Chiarot – * Jeff Petry

Justin Holl

Doesn't look stupid to me. Not a great defense but improved from last year.

Anyone that does get Petry I don't think is giving up a ton right now.

Seider will play first PK on the right side. He is our best PKer.

Seider will have a long learning process to become even a half-effective PK guy. +10 goals/60 on PK are abysmal numbers versus the league.

Those numbers were 6th worst at NHL, od all those 1st pair starting PK guys. And our power-play wasn't 6th worst, it was 18th, and Seider was the weakest link there, espcially with Walman. This can clearly be seen from statistics.

There was no improvement for his rookie season. It was even worse PK in general, but when the PK did get improve for 2022-23, it was still Seider as the weakest link. He has lot to learn. He is not a holy cow. It was same for Team Germany at WHC, and something he has to learn by time.

Maybe Holl is the good partner to mentor him. He comes from a stronger Leafs power-play with better numbers than any of our last season guys left.

Holl and Brodie were the starting pair, meeting toughest assignments.

Holl is clear upgrade versus any of our guys, especially how Walman and Seider sucked statistically on the PK. Määttä got some easier assignments, think Chiarot-Holl could the 1st PK pair.

Think our 1st PK will be much better, when adding some specialists there, like Fischer and Holl. Don't have to keep any better players there to block shots and getting arms broken and legs getting bruises.

All Seiders and Larkins should maximize their ice-time at ES and PP.

1st PK
Copp - Fischer
Chiarot - Holl

2nd PK
Ras - Compher
Määttä - Seider

5th forward
Larkin
(Veleno)

So far the looks pretty much like this. Veleno was the worst PK forward, but got 6th most PK IT of these guys we have.

There was a reason why Yzerman signed Justin Holl. He knows the weakness, and likes to improve our Defencemen at PK. Holl will improve it more than Fischer as a forward. Also full healthy Copp could make a difference, because on some stats, a year ago, he was shown as the best PK guy at NHL.
