McDavid committing was obviously huge but don't act like that alone is the reason they were great. Alex DeBrincat as an undrafted FA, Travis Dermott in the 9th round, Nick Betz in the 9th round, Jordan Sambrook in the 10th round, Devin Williams in the 5th round and Darren Raddysh in the 5th round.

That's 6 of their best players that they got all in the 5th round or later. That's an unbelievable job of drafting.

And to your last line of that post, what exactly do you think Branch could do? Because if his new rule is "I'm forcing 14/15 year old kids to go to cities that they don't want to live in/play in", you'll just see the NCAA, USHL and OJHL talent go through the roof because the OHL will lose a ton of players
not sure " a ton of players" would be lost. some, maybe, and so be it. you want to play in the league, abide by the same rules everyone does. you don't like it, you're free to go elsewhere.

Glad to see Kirk found himself a junior team. I’m a big fan of this kid and think he makes the Petes in ‘19-‘20.

So from the past draft...

1- Cuylle: North York (OJHL) / TBD?
2- Butler: Petes (OHL)
3- Bar: St.Andrews College
3- Austin: Kanata (CCHL) / Petes (OHL)
4- Spearing: Petes (OHL)
5- Perciballi: Aurora (OJHL)
6- Suda: Nichols (US Prep)
7- Kirk: Elmira (GOJHL)
8- Reeve: Kingston (OJHL)?
8- Serraglio: TBD
9- Chiarot: TBD
11- Schooenderwoerd: St.Marys (GOJHL)
12- Palfreyman: Pelham (GOJHL)
14- Studnicka: TBD
15- McMullen: Timmins (NOJHL)

Joey Studnicka played for the Komoka Kings last night, had 5 points.

A .866 save % goalie (who wasn't a true rookie) becoming a top goalie in this league? Dude, c'mon now..,

There's a better chance he's out of the league in 2 years than a top 5 goalie

And to the comment that he was encouraging at the end of last season, after Jan 1 last year he was an .848 save %. In just Feb+March last year (last 2 months of the season) he was a .855 save %. In just March (last month of the season) he was an .863 save %. Did we watch the same games?

My comment was : "Jones had some encouraging stretches at the end of last season"

On March 3rd, Jones was shellacked by Erie (a game where he was not sharp, the whole team didn't play well and included 4 back door tap in goals for the Otters)
This was not part of the encouraging stretches I referred to, but to be fair.....Jones had only been in 1 other game since February 3rd.

He bounced back from that embarrassing game with a .911 save % in his final two games..........that was encouraging for me.

As far as the weak defense corps being the same going into this year, the good news is that they will be a year older. I thought Babintsev was steady defensively for his first year in the league but the numbers game caught up with him. I'm sad that he won't be back.
The bottom line is that the Petes have depth on their blue line........but not quality........unless a number of players make big strides this season.

Who does everyone think the 3 OA’s will be?

Dmen—Austin Osmanski (Buffalo Sabres)
Matt Timms

Fwds— Chris Paquette (Tampa Bay Lightning), Adam Timleck, and Bobby Dow.

Osmanski, Paquette, Timleck

I agree......Timms will likely be traded and Dow will probably be released.....not sure there would be much trade value

Osmanski is big and decent on defense
Timleck could/should score 30+
Paquette needs to be better all round.....he is a great skater but was too inconsistent for me last year

I sure hope they don’t keep Dow over Paquette... but some people seem to think they’re considering it due to Paquette having value via trade.

Timleck and Dow are the only two I would keep. Dow for his work ethic and Timleck for his skill level. Timms cant cut it as a D man and Wilson wont put up with Paquette's lack of effort nor should he.

Timleck seems like a lock for an OA spot. He should be a pretty good offensive player this year - held back by injuries last season.

Timms would be next on my list. Obviously last year didn't go well but 16-17 Timms is light years ahead of the other options and a very valuable player, even if he ends up being dealt to a contender at the deadline.

For the last spot, I lean Dow or Osmanski. Osmanski is solid, not exceptional, you know what you're getting. Dow outscored Paquette 20-17 at even strength last season. He got way less ice time opportunity and was 5 points less even including PP/PK time. It was his first year in the O vs. Paquette having played 200+ games. Paquette was minus-36.

If Paquette has any trade value from being a relatively high OHL pick and NHL drafted, great. If not, he's still the 5th of 5 options in my eyes.

They have to keep Osmanski.........are you expecting them to go with a D group of......

Chisholm Fraser
Beraldo McNamara
Supryka O'Toole
Spearing

Osmanski is a lock IMO and I'd be shocked if Dow is kept.
I am hoping that Coach Wilson will be able to get more from Paquette.
As far as Timms goes, I'm sure some team could use a PP specialist who could be paired with a solid stay-at-home D partner for 5 on 5.

Timms was so bad last season he was completely unplayable at 5 on 5. As a 20 year old defenseman, you shouldn’t have to “hide” him on your roster. It’s a pass from me.

Also, I would like to see Chisholm step up and run the first PP unit with Supryka on the second.

I agree timleck and Dow as Wilson won’t like paquettes work ethic and I think you missed osmanski? He’s my d oa and captain this year....or are you saying with timms and paquette trades get an oa dman?

They are going to need a good solid experienced defenceman and Timms is certainly not the guy. As much as I like the effort that Osmanski gives I dont see him as the answer. I see the Petes being a good team this year but a serious contender next year so why waste time with overagers unless they are a cut above. Let the younger guys develop.

I hear ya but they also need some older guidance as well, guys to talk to etc imo...I do agree they are going to be better than most predict and you never know what happens in a season theyll be competitive and by the sounds of Wilson accountable and earn their ice time!!! Wow that’s refreshing even stating it haha

"The Petes can trade Cuylle prior to Sept. 15 or during a window before the January trade deadline and also receive a compensatory fifth-overall selection in the 2019 draft. They could also let Cuylle re-enter the draft next spring and receive the compensation pick."

Is that right? I thought it had to be done during the September window to get compensation.

I thought so too... but I don’t think any team has ever waited that long in the past. So, maybe it is true we’ve just never seen it done.

Id like to see him in a Saginaw jersey! With what the GM here (Drinkill) is doing so far the past couple of offseason, I would not be surprised if he has tried to see if Cuylle would report. Saginaw has lots of future picks and tradable players.
