Can someone clarify if Cehlarik is sent down ... he would need to clear waivers? If not at what point does this happen

From Sportingnews hockey...
Peter Cehlarik has been called up by Boston.
Cehlarik was on the ice for Tuesday's practice. The Bruins lost Colby Cave to Edmonton via the waiver wire and there are some injury concerns with Jake DeBrusk (lower body) and Chris Wagner (illness) missing from Tuesday's skate. Cehlarik has 10 goals and 29 points in 37 games for Providence of the AHL this year. Jan 15 - 1:07 PM
It won't I think he has some value to another team and you can deal him, Cave was a decent gamble to clear waivers.

Jake is really mysteriously injured after being taken to task by the coach? Hmmm

yeah funny isn`t it? Although I got the gut feeling something wasn`t right with him the last week or two, now, not saying that it was an injury, could very well just be a young player trying to find the consistency but either way, a move had to be made. I`ve been vocal about not viewing PC`s game as one that I think will have much of an impact. I`d be more than ok coming on here if proven incorrect with my freshly polished Crow eating fork and knife combo

If Cehlarik can stick around and do a good job on Krejci's wing it makes trading for a 3C a lot easier

It seems as he would be a perfect fit for Krejci once their in the offensive zone as he’s got good hands and size, decent shot, and appears to be his most effective from the dots in.

Would love for him to succeed, but as usual here on HF, I believe people have built him up as something he’s not. Then when he doesn’t meet unrealistic expectations, they will **** all over him.

Kind of like they did with Cave, who would have been a good 4th liner imo, and should not have been asked to play 2C.

The ideal spot to bring Cehlarik into would have been the 3rd line instead of Donato, with Heinen and a legit 3rd line NHL C. Cehlarik loses his waiver exemption after this year, so it would have been preferable (for me anyway) if the B’s had given him a shot right out of camp (instead of Donato) to see what they had earlier in the season.

Regardless of how expendable people think Cave is, losing him on waivers was not good asset management.

There you go Cave is a good 4th liner.

We have a good 4th line there are no spots open on it for grinders. We also can't break that line up because it is our defacto 3rd line. The kid line blows right now all 3 are insanely soft and I would bet a lot of money we see Heinen, Donato, and JFK in street clothes in the postseason.

Smith is ahead of Cave for a recall IMO so its not much of a loss to the Boston Bruins. Yes it hurts Providence. I think if Edmonton sends him down we will bring him back to our organization.

Naw... I think Cave wont return

Oilers could use a guy like him who provides sandpaper, responsible on defensive end hockey

He also will get min on PK... something Oilers are not that great on

So the guy who can't crack the line up and has not been able to score in the NHL is the answer for 2RW on a contending team? Really? Nothing like overrating the prospects. Then again we have some on here who think Alexander Khokolacev is the answer and should be signed regardless of cost so......

Can you read? I said if he shows he can do a good job (that includes scoring) they may not need a 2RW
Not overrating him at all. I think Sweeney is doing the right thing here and seeing what he has in Cehlarik. He has been excellent in the AHL last few months. If so all the Bruins would really need is a 3C ie. Kevin Hayes/Eric Staal/Pageau as opposed to needing to fill two huge holes in 2rw and 3c

I don't know. He didn't play with his usual all out fore-check, crash and bang with reckless abandonment and no care for his body. On the Canadiens shorty, Jake didn't pursue the puck when it first entered the zone like Jake normally does and he just didn't play like himself and I guess too me anyways this explains it.

I just don't think he's the kind of kid who's going to have a mysterious injury because the coach calls him out. He's a small guy who sacrifices his body, to the extreme where eventually, he's going to get banged up and its going to take its toll.

I agree it would be ideal if Cehlarik was on the 3rd line, but there is no one in the organization this year that has looked competent on Krejci's RW besides Pastrnak. I'll take trying Cehlarik on the 2nd line any day over Backes. If this works out, it solves a massive problem for the Bruins so why not be optimistic? Then going after Schenn to shore up the 3rd line makes more sense. I guess that makes me "pro-Cehlarik"... lol

My guess is they tried to shop him, and the return was either zero or so bad (2020 7th rounder kinda bad) that they took a shot at him clearing waivers, knowing he might not, but believing that the potential reward outweighed the risk.

Had he cleared, some Bruins posters would have said what a shrewd move it was by our GM. Had they traded him for a 2020 7th rounder, I'm thinking it would be a mixed bag between too little of a return and "at least they got something" for him.

They took a shot, it didn't work, and they've moved on quickly. Some risks are worth taking and I kind of think even when they don't work out should be factored into the evaluation of the situation.

I didn't men to intimate that he was faking, I meant maybe they want him to sit and watch and are doing it under the guise of an injury or being banged up. Jake is a stand up young man

few years ago I thought this guy had some good chemistry with krejci and looked good... ive been confused ever since by his lack of progress making the team

of course... I also still think brain Ferlin looked great here on our 4th line and still wonder why hes never seen the light of day in the nhl since his cup of coffee here

I got nothing against cehlerik. ive sort of given up thinking of him as a top prospect. but if he makes it I will be happy for him

Wow he sounds like

I have to do this to play at the nhl level

Vs

I know I have to do this to take my game to the next level

Also is it just me or does he look stronger? He looks like he added upper body mass

I hope he can stick around because he has some excellent hands

Saw several of his recent goal highlights and most seemed like the greasy ones. Parking his butt in front of the net

Nice to see

Serious question. If no one is willing to give up an asset for Cave in a trade do you keep him on the roster the entire year then?

I don't think it's a big deal to lose a potential 3rd or 4th line guy especially when we have a ton of them already on the roster and when we signed him undrafted for no assets to begin with.

Thats not the issue, the issue is what did we gain from losing Cave on the wire?

The CHANCE for Cehlarik to MAYBE make the team. Its not about Cehlarik either, if they had called up Senyshyn it would be the same issue. A propsect gets called up for a look, and we lose a good Providence player for that look. Someone coming off IR or a trade that gave us too many forwards and I say "Well, sorry to see him go but we had to." This just seems rather arbitrary.

And they gained Smith and traded for a good AHL center so who cares? You’d rather sit Cave in the press box than give Cehlarik a shot?
