I can see it now, the Penguins lead by 35 year old Crosby need to desperately dump salary under the 91 million cap as Geno Malkin leaves for Magnitogorsk and Letang retires, but Brandon Tanev is holding them over a barrel leading the the demise of the franchise.

No I can’t.

Incidentally, they have a statue of this guy, my former professor Victor Friedman, somewhere in Skopje. I've never found it though.

He was invited to study in Belgrade in the 70s and apparently got really drunk one night and ditched his secret police escort to join a Macedonian wedding and thus, ended up in Skopje for two months until the police caught up with him to deport him.

I'd like to apologize, Bryan Rust is in fact not a few months older than Tanev, he is in fact a few months younger.

Tanev will be 28 this year.

So he can still be traded to 2/3's of the league? Yeah, won't be hard to find someone 3 years down the line to move him to. 3 years from now when the cap is even higher.

People acting like he's got a full NMC.....

I'm shocked and super duper surprised.

This signing will literally destroy the Pens. Wonder if KC still wants a hockey team because that's where we're headed I tell you what!!!!

Actually I do think it'll be hard to find someone who wants a 30+ year old 4th liner at 3.5 million with 3 years left on his deal.

Yeah, that's completely irresponsible. You don't give a role player longer than 3 years and you certainly don't give him any form of no-trade clause. If that's what it takes to claim the Tanev Cup, you quit the contest.

Just don't understand it. I can understand a 3 year deal with a NTC (though I personally wouldn't give him one) and I can understand a 6 year deal (again I personally wouldn't do it) but to give him both? Completely asinine. Does JR take everything a player's agent says at gospel?

Not me, if we did Trac Bjugstad I would look for another defenseman like Pettersson. If we could find an LD on an entry level contract like we found in him then I would be all over that and would gladly add a pick if need be. Why trade for a Center when McCann has already played Center in Florida as a 3C and did a good job of it. I would be fine with a Tanev-McCann-Hornqvist line and the opposing team would hate to play against them. I still rather keep Bjugstad but for the right defenseman I would make a hockey trade.

Because the most success McCann has had is with Sid and Geno. McCann should unquestionably start there to begin the season and I think if tried there he wouldn't be moved.

I'll bet posting privileges on this board forever if we can't move a 3.5M contract a few years from now. Not only move it but not have to attach picks and better players to move it.

It's asinine but not surprising that so many here think that all 3rd and 4th line players are and will forever be on 6 figure ELC like contracts.

You don't pay 3.5 million, 6 years to a 27 year old guy with 51 career points.

I didn't see this at first lmao

 Mother of God.

I'm just glad that if JR was going to lose his mind in free agency at least he went nuts over a player I like. We could be talking about a 6 year 3.5 m deal for Chiasson right now and the Pgh police would be stuck spending their Independence Day fishing jumpers out of the rivers.

Some think brain functionality is overrated (see Flyers, Philadelphia). But you are right, that was a tragically dark episode in Czech history.

My favorite part of it was when some idiot out in Těšín (I think) narrowly escaped going blind because he accidentally bought a round of tainted shots for the bar, but decided to drink them all himself and thus, vomited before he poisoned himself.

That's not how natural selection is meant to work.
