this thread doesn't see a lot of traffic since Bergeron is just so damn quietly consistent, but I just had to drop in here to say he had such an awesome game last night. The goal was huge obviously, but besides that it was such a vintage Bergeron game with him stripping pucks, making plays on the PK, springing guys on the rush, picking off passes, etc. He's just such a joy to watch.
There were 2 specific plays on the PK where he showed patience by retreating back into his own d-zone to get the puck to the D-man to clear out. That's such an underrated aspect of his game. He's always so aware of his surroundings and can almost always chip the puck to a safe spot for someone else to make a safe clear.

I'd love to but it's basically impossible for me to go through old games now. It was so easy to find stuff on YouTube before.

I see him playing well into late 30's early 40's with a reduced shut down specialist role on the 3rd line :).

Here's to hoping we get another 5-7 years of Bergeron!

Also his leadership and being a mentor will be incredibly valuable for Studnicka and Beecher

Usual Bergeron back check. This is all on heart and soul responsible player.....high competition level. Not flashy but romantique.!

How some can spit on 37 is not understandable for me. Nice short handed goal.... and for those yelling he is a empty netter, i hope they saw he beaten Detroit keeper being crush by behind.! Net wasn’t empty ...for this one dirty tongue!

Yeah, you don't get to be fifth all time in goals scored for a team with over 90 years of history by just scoring garbage goals/empty netters.

That shorty yesterday was sweet

Semi off topic - he's having a very good year and there was always some talk about his unstable groin. Is there anything conclusive on that? Is he controlling with physio as he doesn't look all that limited in his skating His faceoff numbers, while still good, are not vintage Bergy, so not sure how the groin plays in to that.

Neat interview with Bergeron's mom, with an assist to Google Translate since I don't read French.

Shocking that a kid made it to the pros without parents who blamed the coaches for everything, sat in the stands yelling at the refs, etc. :sarcasm:

It's hockey. Be a kid. We're more concerned about you the person than the player. What a concept! Good job, mom and dad.

While the groan is probably still an issue, his faceoff numbers aren't. He is currently sitting at 57.43% while his career number is 57.1%.

A little story about Bergy, especially to the doubters who recently showed up. Patrick Ehelechner, a former goalie in the german league, is reporting nowadays and is taking visits to the german players in the NHL like Kahun, Grubauer to name a few.

He also visited Leon Draisaitl, the point leader in the NHL by the way, and asked him the question who is the toughest player to play against in the NHL. Leon thought about it a few seconds and then said players like Bergeron. He justified his decision with the fact that not exactly the most physical players are toughest to play against rather the players who are playing intelligent and clever. He only mentioned Bergy by name.

How can we trade our worthless stat-padding goon Bergeron for one of these "smart" Bergerons?

Hope he doesn't tweak his groin going into PO.

Sitting him and Chara against Vancouver if they beat Calgary would be a real good idea. That would be 4 games in 7 days if they both sit. That's enough
for me for a 34 and 42 year old after winning 4
straight and 3 straight on the road.

Wouldn't be against Krejci sitting Friday. I know he fed Pasta for the winner but he looked like he had dead legs last night.

Not a terrible thing to throw a bone to Kuraly and Lindholm to give them a couple games in higher slots.

5. McDavid - 0.52
6. Draisaitl - 0.50
7. Kucherov - 0.50
8. Bergeron - 0.49
9. Tavares - 0.49
10. Stamkos - 0.46
11. Marchand - 0.45
