And he's done all of this with essentially chronic groin injuries for what, like four years now? Not to mention various other injuries...a broken foot here, busted rib/shoulder there, throw in some back spasms for good measure...

I hope DelNegro gets good money for keeping that guy in one piece

Bergeron has really had quite the crazy career.

Makes the NHL as an 18 year old, which is basically unheard of for 2nd round picks. The lockout gives him a chance to be MVP at the World Juniors and become the first player to win a men's World Championship before the Juniors.

Bruins decide to move forward with him as the face of the team instead of Joe Thornton. He has back-to-back 70+ point seasons. Then, the Randy Jones hit changes everything. Major concerns about concussion issues for the rest of his career.

He comes back as a strong defensive forward, wins the Selke four times, and is top five every season starting in 2009-10. He wins a Cup and becomes a member of the Triple Gold Club. He's well regarded, but not quite considered one of the top centers in the game universally. This is largely due to the fact that from 2007-08 to 2016-17, he averages just 0.73 pts per game (82-game pace is 60 pts).

Then, in 2017-18, he turns into a scoring dynamo at the age of 32. He's 15th in points per game since then. He finally gets his due as one of the best players in the league. When most of his fellow 2003 draftees are starting to decline, he's somehow getting better. I'd say he's unbelievable, but he's 'Mr. Perfect'. None of this is surprising.

Bergeron was a beast tonite vs Flames.Cannot count the plays he came back and killed chances .He does not get Selke this year they shove it up their butts.
I would think that Kopitar and Toews will not be in real contention for the Selke this season, maybe just O'Reilly. Either way, hope he nails down that record 5th Selke and they can stop referring to it as the "Bob Gainey" award and rebrand it the "Bergy Award", like it should be.

He came in second to Couturier in the PHWA's midseason awards, ahead of O'Reilly. I think he's got a real shot, but he needs to stay healthy. He came in a close 3rd each of the past two years, and he probably wins both years if he doesn't miss 20 games.

There's voters fatigue for the Selke. Because he missed so much time the last few years a lot of people don't even consider him anymore and are just aboard the Couturier/O'Reilly train.

it's amazing he's done so well considering he's "riding marchand and pasta's coattails"

(partially for @Dr Hook 's enjoyment)

And he almost did it again last night- saw that Calgary net empty out and thought to myself "here comes another Patrice stat-padder." pfft overrated. Those two first period goals were all Brad and Pasta, too.

Marchand could not possibly have made a more illogical play to try to get him the hat trick lmao. Bergeron fed him at the Flames blueline from the Bruins own zone and Marchand more or less could have just walked in but he decides to circle back and lob a crazy floater pass into like 3 Flames just inside the zone with the off chance Bergeron can somehow find it rushing in from his own zone. Worst thing was there was still significant time on the clock for the Flames to score.

There's the team confidence, they knew at some primal level they weren't giving up a goal to the Flames ;). I still think Patrice can get his 40 softies this year, though, and make everyone think he is good.

4 Selkes in the last 8 seasons. The other 4 seasons during that stretch he has been 2nd or 3rd. Probably should have 1 or 2 more Selkes during that stretch. I try not to have Bruins-colored glasses on when I consider who deserves awards, but I'm sure there is still bias. In my as unbiased opinion as possible I cannot see how the voters can find reason to not award the Selke to Bergy this season. He has been an absolute monster.

Cirelli getting some love deservedly, but Bergy has better offensive numbers. Barkov, Stone, Oreilly, Kopitar and Couts probably the other ones in the discussion. Bergeron should absolutely win provided he stays healthy and continues producing like this. He deserves to have the record.
