We know getting either Bergevin or New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello to admit that they had a potential deal worked out that would’ve seen Pacioretty going one way and either the 11th or 12th overall pick going the other would be akin to asking Donald Trump to admit to a lie, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen..

This article is such crap. It's all speculation.

If that was the case, that's what the article would have said.

Scherbak is probably movable, but there is a literal 0% chance that Bergevin would move Mete unless another LD was coming back. Kid is looking like the real deal after a rookie year, so no your trade makes no sense.
Yeah, because Bergevin would never trade out his young star Dman for help somewhere else......

No way a deal was close to that. 11 could have been a piece of a trade, but obviously not the center. Maybe it was Mete, Scherbak, 11, and 2 2nds or something in that area. Teams could discuss the picks that almost happened after, but would keep a lid on the players almost dealt.

Lol that’s SUCH an overpayment. It was written black & white that it was 11 (or 12) and a couple of picks. Nothing else

LOL Sabres hoping for 3rd overall but only getting a 1st out of the top 10 as the main piece. Everyone else knew ROR isn't worth that much, unfortunately the homers were out in full force after winning the lottery.

Lol.... not sure why some people don't get that they can stomp their feet all they want but you can't force a team to trade you their good players for whatever you don't want. To get a ror, is going to cost something that hurts a bit. Period. This article is MB trying to look good in the Canadien press.

keep in mind when assessing ROR's value that based on his contract, he is due a $7 mil check on 7/1/18. So his value is considerably lower today (or at the draft) than it's going to be in 6 days.

I thought ROR would get traded at the draft, and if he didn't... then he's not getting traded at all. I'm sticking with that

Canadiens' Bergevin came close to hitting all marks during draft weekend - Sportsnet.ca

Basically the Habs were going to trade Max for one of the 1st rounders from the Islanders, and flip that to Buffalo for ROR, but the Islanders pulled out when they had the options to draft who they did.

Interesting in theory, Sabres fans wanted 3OA but seems like the deal would have been done around a lot less.

I wonder if this is something that still happens in some capacity.
The Sabres GM Jason Botterill is the one who stuck to his guns. 3 OA.
Stating ROR would have gone for less is not true, nor does this article state such. Both McKenzie and Dregger have stated Botterill wasn't moving off the 3rd OA demand.

just a matter of time before patches is in BUF and ROR is a hab
If that were going to happen, it would have. For a few minutes there the best thing about the Pacioretty to kings trade was that we'd never have to hear about habs fans thinking he would get them O'Reilly lol.

Glad Lou turned this down, but the fact that this trade was so close is concerning. Pacioretty is the last thing we need.
