I think that everyone who has stumbled across me, in real life and on social media, has gone away confused to one degree or another lol

Show me how I can be confused about you since you are from “The Show Me State”? But what do I know. Born in the Keystone state and raised in the First state. Home of the Blue Hens.

Pardon me if I don't take the word of Jay "the PK is a red herring" Greenberg as gospel. He's a PR mouthpiece for Holmgren and Hakstol.

I didn't realize goaltending was the reason the Flyers are ranked 28th in 1st period goals scored under Hak.

I lost all respect for Greenberg after his last few articles.

Well, goal tending is probably a big issue.
Natural Stat Trick:

Flyers #1 in least Scoring Chances allowed, #11 is SCA GA, 84.10 S% on those chances is 28th in the NHL
Flyers #3 in least High Danger SC allowed, #8 in HDCA GA, 12th in HDCA S% at 81.70%

So what's it mean? Flyers are not giving up a lot of scoring chances, but allowing more goals on those chances.
And especially "soft" goals, the goalies are average against tougher shots, but bad against generic scoring opportunities.

Tells me fix the goalies and you fix ES play, stop giving up soft goals and the team will play with more confidence and less conservatively.

Except Hextall might not have been that far off the mark on the PK (4 on 5):
26th in SC GA, 8th in SCA, 30th in SCA S%,
29th in HD GA, 12th in HDCA, 28th in HDCA S%
So the goalies have been as bad or worse on the PK than 5x5
Otherwise the PK has been slightly above average in terms of scoring chances allowed.

The PP should come around, the PK? Well, hopefully Wilson gets a chance to fix it.

i'll put this way, if fletch improves the defense, goaltending and gets a new coach, then yes we will have a chance.

The fact that Fletcher brought up the Leddy trade was a good sign, he recognized the value of top prospects, and the reason you should be reluctant to trade them - as I used to tell my students, make mistakes as fast as possible, just make sure you learn from them.

Looking at the Minnesota team he built, no simple pattern:

Granlund 5'10 185
Pominville 6'0 180
Spurgeon 5'9 168
Tucker 5'11 187

Coyle 6'3 221
Koivu 6'3 215
Niederreiter 6'2 216

I think the one thing to watch for is what he does with PO underperformers, Simmonds and Ghost have been bad and Jake mediocre.
Given his experience in Minnesota, will he make that an important part of player evaluation, can they play "playoff hockey."
Where did you teach?

I am lucky my rugby teams have done well this decade or being a fan of the Flyers would have made me go insane by now.
