He's still very much a mystery in terms of what he can offer in the future. This season will give a much better indication. 2nd line center? 1st? 3rd? good on PP or not? PK specialist? No one knows at the moment.

I think what we've seen thus far gives indication. If someone guesses he'll be a 46.66 point center and they get it right between a certain standard deviation, they'd have gotten lucky. But I think we can guess with atleast an appreciable degree of confidence.

Scouts don't know what a junior player is, and they often have to make educated guesses on players they've seen a small handful of times. Believe it or not, I actually trust some people to have a clue on a player they've seen 10 times, especially when it comes in the NHL and not in junior trying to project into the NHL.

Thing about Pageau, he hasn't fluctuated. He's been the same guy every shift.

There is no elite skill set, but there's the possibility of elite hockey sense with appreciable skill set. His feisty may make up for size. I'm not gonna say there's a star player because I think that's quite a reach at this point....but lots of smoke and mirrors going on if he becomes a prototypical bottom 6 forward or worse.

And now you're playing dumb.

You were unclear.
He's saying that Pageau could be good, but at this point predicting his point totals in the future is more of a guess than a good prediction, but that he's shown enough to be more than a bottom player.

Basically.

There's no absolute guarantee he couldn't hold down a top 6 spot adequate right now...and not set the team back. Condra can actually do that, but he sets the team back offensively in that role, I think Pageau may get to the point soon where he's similar, but can actually score adequately.

And I'm rtalking about now/near future. He should at least be a high quality top 6 forward in future. He'll have to mature real well to be more though.

Well, don't know where he'll end up, but his endless energy levels and the way he works his butt off every shift and actively tries to make things happen are great signs. He's one of those guys you want to root for and have on your team because he does work so hard.

If only we could dump some miracle grow on the kid and give him some decent size. Imagine what a guy with that kind of work ethic and energy could've been if he was 6'2"? Damn...

Agreed. It's an absolutely terrible comparison that appears to be rooted in the fact that both players are from Québec.

Both have speed to burn. Both are better than average in the faceoff circle. Both are sneaky. Both are PK experts.

Vermette had more skill, while Pageau has the better IQ.

If Pageau can be even close to as good as Vermette, that would be amazing.

Vermette is better looking. No homo.

The comparison isn't perfect, but it's accurate.

They both also have about the same ceiling IMO benjiv.

IMO they are completely different players.
Even the way they create and use their speed is different, Vermette's hands and balance couldnt come close to keeping up with his speed while Pageau is stable at all times and can do everything at high speed.
Pageau's hockey IQ is far superior.

Faceoffs? sure.

i was going to say a faster Bergeron, but after all these years im shocked to see bergeron listed at 6'2" !?!
i would have said 5'10 and thick/solid. 6'2" !!!

How about a smaller/ faster Bergeron?

Edit: Actually kinda similar to Brière in a lot of ways

I definitely don't see the resemblance with Vermette

Comparison's are futile but if you absolutely need one, atleast get the most defining qualities to match.

A player of speed/skill will never play the same way as a player with speed/hockey sense.

One player has the ability to hold on to the puck and keep the puck on his team's stick..the other has to do things in one punch or he probably loses the puck.

Real simplistic, but that comparison is off because it neglects the qualities that define the players.
