This Voracek-Atkinson comp needs to just stop. AV wanted Jake gone. Jake was fine with that. He saw AV as what he was. An Atkinson type of return was the best that could be had at the time for a player whose career was in decline and had injury issues.
Much better than giving up assets to get rid of players AV didn't want around.

Voracek xGA/60, xGArel:
2018-19: 2.55, +.12, pp/60: 1.94
2019-20: 2.21, -.11 pp/60: 2.36
2020-21: 2.46, +.45, pp/60: 2.38
2021-22: 2.88, +.06, pp/60: 1.66

Atkinson xGA/60,
2019-20: 2.16, +.20 pp/60: 1.58
2020-21: 2.38, +.03, pp/60: 1.40
2021-22: 2.88, +.18, pp/60: 2.40
2023-24: 2.65, +.41, pp/60: 2.02

Voracek was falling apart physically, Atkinson has bounced back but 2RW offense has to be balanced with below average and declining defense. Basically traded one overpaid player for another, merely shifting the cap hit out an extra year.

Atkinson is a good example of what people are worried about,
Signed 7 year deal in 2017 at $5.75, 7.7% of cap. 6.9% of current Flyers cap.
28 years old first year of contract, 34 last year.
Contract looks worse b/c COVID killed cap increases.

Tippett signed for 7.1% of cap next season, by 7th season ($110M cap, $4M a year increase) might be down to 5.6% or so.
26 years old first year, 32 last year, and he's a lot bigger and stronger than Atkinson.

You are not able to be objective when Voracek is involved.

I like OT, but I'm not sure about the contract. Time will tell

Also, are people still bitching about the CA/JK trade? It was the right move then, and it still is. Time to move on

Cap is higher than salary last two years, which makes him attractive to rebuilding teams trying to reach the cap minimum without spending real money.

It’s strange that Tippett is not getting a signing bonus in 2026 when the CBA expires but is in each of the other first 5 years

Ugh. It’s not a disaster or anything, but I really do not like handing out NTCs to anyone short of the Giroux or at least Couturier level. That’s their 6th one of one form or another.

That was one of Hextall’s best attributes: militantly not giving out NTCs. As soon as Fletcher came in, that went by the wayside.

From the Flyers perspective, they probably get excited when a player demands a NTC. It means they like being a Flyer just so darn much! Character!

They love when the players demand a NTC but despise them when they use it.

See: Giroux, Claude

Well, it's only the first four years and limited to 10 teams, likely the teams that wouldn't be trading for him anyway (bottom feeders).
