What's the general going rate for 50 point players these days? $6m doesn't seem too bad based on the production we got out of Hayes and JvR at $7m or $7.5m each.

I question if it's worth giving out contracts like that when the team is supposedly in rebuild mode though. The term would be the biggest thing for me.

Edit: Well there it is. 8 years is a lot but I guess it won't be too bad if the cap actually goes up at a steady rate.

Solid deal if you think he's going to be more than what he is currently and will continue to improve. Would you pay that if you think he can be a consistent 60-70 point 30 goal scorer?

Would have preferred 6x6m, but this is fine. You’re getting UFA years of a likely 30+ goal scorer. Was never going to come cheap, and if you’re one of those who believes their window will be opening in 2027 or whatever, then you get the benefit of a discount in those years when he’d probably command $8M on the open market had he taken a 3-year deal at, say, $5M AAV.
