Ugh, it's tough from a fan perspective to be let-down in later stages after such hot starts.

Anywho, of course 894 will be hard but it's a matter of health and time not so much if he can do it given the games.

He could have gone off for 60 this year and I’d still say he’d have a heck of an uphill battle to that record.

I just think people are overestimating how many goals he’s going to score for the rest of his career.

He’s now 33.5 years old and has played 1200 games including the playoffs in 14 years and has been virtually injury free (deep runs year after year takes a toll; look at LeBron).

If at age 25, he managed only 32 goals in a whole season (I understand the system contribute something to this), it’s very easy to see 15-25 goal seasons at the end.

The fact it can even be a debate is absolutely remarkable. Big time props for having 655 goals in 1078 games in this day and age.

Since his 29 goals in 32 games to start the season, Ovi is like top 15 in goals (only like 7 back from first), and top 30 in the league in points. So I would hardly call that 'merely average'.

Either way, dominating the first ~30 games, and then still being in the top 15 for the next 50 games leads to a rocket, it's all the same to me over a full season.

Ya but he definitely isn't padding his goal stats. Tonight another EN chance and he passes to Backstrom instead. Last game same story. His reluctance to get pad his goal stats with EN goals in last few games could end up costing him.

I remember when I said that Ovechkin wouldn't hit 60, and said for realistic measures, the lowest I think he'll do is 50, maybe he'll hit 55. And I was attacked lol. Sure looks like he will hit 50, if he is hot over the next 5 games he could do 3-4 goals and end with 52-53 goals. He's my favorite player, but he's also a goal scorer, and they are streaky by nature. Scoring is up overall, but it's always going to be rare for a player to hit 60+ goals, even for Ovechkin.

Now, in this dry streak I've seen him almost score 4-5 goals. Too bad he just couldn't do it. I thought he was injured one game because he just couldn't get the cannon off like he usually does, but looking back I think he just had an off night.
