The guy is arguably the greatest goal scorer of all time...

It isn't embarassing at all to be winning by only 2 goals at the age of thirty freakin three while having won the trophy the last 8 seasons in a row.

And it's not like he's losing, or some complete scrubs are up there with him, Draisaitl and Tavares are among some of the best players in the league lol

33 isn't old and Ovi at 33 had 29 in 32. He is just mailing it in. Draisaitl is overachieving very heavily in goalscoring. Tavares is in a career year. But still they aren't close at all and this race doesn't look right at all. If Stamkos gets 10 goals in 5 games, hits 51 goals and wins then it's good because a elite goalscorer is winning. Now it doesn't look right because neither Draisaitl or Tavares are elite goalscorers. They are heavily overachieving in goalscoring.

Illpucks never fails to provide some quality arguments

That said, I do agree that both Drai and Tavares are overachieving a bit this year but it seems like a lot of players are. However, Ovi isn’t mailing it in at all, he’s been buzzing most games he just has been a bit snakebit with finding the back of the net.

To be fair, Draisaitl is shooting at 22% which is the highest in the top 50 goalscorers. Only him, Point and Pavelski are over 20, so a regression can be expected (with his career S% 16).

Would sure be something to see Draisaitl take this somehow.

Imagine missing the playoffs with Connor McDavid and the Rocket Richard winner on the same team. JUST

Ovechkins stat padding out on a power play in a 5-2 game with under 5 minutes left he can hear drais footsteps .

Draisaitl needs to make up some ground tonight to have a shot

Kucherov scored on a PP in the last 30 seconds when his team was trailing 6-2. All players pad their stats. If the coach is gonna put him out there late in the game, what do you want him to do? Shoot the puck back into his own zone in shame?
Kuch knows mcdavid is coming .he should thank Tampa's pp for his possible art ross

If he was stat padding his 50th goal would be EN goal. But he purposely didn't try EN goal for #50.

Or maybe he’s actually calculated with his shot selection vs Ovie’s “any shot is a good shot” approach. I’m not trying to overcritique Ovie - he possesses one of the best shots in the game, why not use it as much as possible - but to use shooting % as an argument of why Drai doesn’t belong in a race with Ovie is obtuse in my opinion.

Drai’s shooting % will be higher because he:

A) Plays with McDavid, thus will be put in better opportunities to convert due to McDavid’s passing/playmaking ability.

B) Plays with McDavid, thus will give up average shot attempts in favour of passing back to McDavid vs Ovie being a pure trigger man.

Ovie’s shooting % won’t deviate much because he’s a high volume shooter who takes the same approach every game.

As long as Drai plays with McDavid, he’ll be a threat for the Rocket, as well as have a high shooting %.

I wouldn't say he is overachieving yet. This is what, his third year? And who knows how long he'll be paired with McDavid? I can't imagine either of them going anywhere.

People talk about Draisaitl like he's some 32 year old player who has done nothing until this season. He's a 23 year old who was drafted 3rd overall. Maybe we didn't see him being this good but if there was ever a player who should be paired with McDavid, he is one of the better candidates.

Why can't Draisaitl just be a guy with a great shot who is reaching his ceiling because he's with McDavid? It's not that he's overachieving. We're just seeing his max potential. We talk all the time about what Player X could do if he had a playmaker/sniper to play with. McDavid and Draisaitl are just a pair made in hockey heaven...and let's not talk about this like anyone can be paired sigh McDavid and score 50 goals. Oilers fans had to watch Hall, Eberle, Lucic and many others not find chemistry with him. Pens fans can say the same thing about Crosby. It takes a special player to play with the best.
