Another coach fired, that makes 4 already. What a season for coaches.

1) You cannot depend on your goalie to be your main star. There is just too much scoring now, even good goalies let in 3-4 goals often. Most teams have realized this. The best teams roll with 2 decent goalies and alternate them, because they end up having to work so much more now that playing one guy for 70 games will just lead to injuries and fatigue.

2) You absolutely need, at minimum, one star forward to compete. I'm not talking about a guy who puts up 75 pts. This is not good enough anymore, it isn't 2015. Last year, 75 pts was outside the top 30 in scoring. You need at least one guy capable of either 40 goals or 90-100 pts, or both. Preferably multiple guys. It may sound like a lot but it really isn't, most of the teams in our division have this already. We are in the minority because we don't have one. It's basically us, Ottawa and Detroit. In the Metro, you have New Jersey and Columbus, and maybe NYI but they are playing a fantastic team game. The rest of the teams all have at least one guy who will put up over 90 pts.

Your star cannot be your goalie, you will not be able to keep up.

Last year was kind of an anomaly, but I've always thought that cup contenders have at least two players that are top 5 in the world at their position, and if you don't have that, then 3 players that are top 10.

Blues - N/A
Ov/Backstrom/Holtby
Crosby/Malkin
Keith/Kane/Toews
Quick/Doughty/Kopitar
Chara/Thomas
Lidstrom/Zetterberg/Datsyuk
Pronger/Neidermayer
Carolina - NA

Blues may have had their 2 if only from january on

Binnington was 1.89 GAA and .927 save % going 24-5-1 Only Bishop is in that stratosphere last year with a 1.98 GAA amd .934 save % with a 27-15-2 record.
ROR was probably a top 5 all round centre last year
He was 4th in 5-5 GF%
on The PK he played 168 Mins and team only got scored on 13 times while scoring 3 SH. Gold standard Bergeron by comparison was on for 14 Ga and 7 SH for in 110 mins
Argument can be made that ROR was a top 5 all round centre last yr.

Brad Marchand is still a rat. But this was cool of him to go over to shake the 9-year old anthem singer's hand after being impressed with her anthem renditions.

that's too bad for Montgomery depending on what he did, as the former Hab was a very good coach in the NCAA so I could see him ending up back there unless it was something like bad bad.

Great start in Washington.

Play off hockey .

Pasta gets another beauty goal. Wilson crosschecks Bruin , Chara drops gloves with Wilson. Good tilt, Chara gets decision.

All in the first 10 minutes.
