Malmö would definitely be the team to join from Sweden. They are struggling to stay alive and has no real possibility of getting promoted to SHL anytime too soon.

Would KHL be able to fund like, a huge majority of Malmös budget if they joined? They are in pretty bad shape financially.

KHL would help them to find sponsors and they would do a lot to promote such a project to make it financially stable in the future.

A team in Malmö also would open the Danish market to KHL and the one in Northern Germany as it would be more likely that people from Hamburg go to a Malmö game than to one of Munich (far closer distance).

I can say one thing - it is not coincidence that Red Bulls joined MHL. Look, MHL and KHL has at least one common person - Alexander Medvedev. It was reported that he talked to Dietrich Mateschitz about joining KHL .... no deal was done, but Red Bulls joined MHL. I can see MHL as 1st stage. Off course, time will tell.

It would be irony to have Red Bull Salzburg/Munchen in KHL. When I looked at 1st edition of ET, there were Jokerit, Sparta and Salzburg. The last two as sole club from national league. Finals of ET is called Red Bulls. Irony. Main "stones" of ET have been brought by KHL Sparta´s owner is in KHL, Jokerit on the way, Salzurg in talks (??). Someone said, if you can not beat your opponent, try to buy him.

Look Red Bull is one of the biggest sponsors in the world of sports and it is no coincidence that they bought EHC München this year. Before hockey in Munich was almost dead and now there are plans to build a 14,000 arena in Munich for EHC Red Bull München (ice hockey/DEL) + FC Bayern München (basketball/BBL).

Red Bull failed multiple times to join DEL because Germans didn't want foreign teams in their league and Salzburg is too small to have a KHL team and they only have a very small arena.

For Salzburg another advantage is that Munich is only 140 km away so many Austrian fans could buy season tickets for possible KHL team from Red Bul Munich.

Another advantage for Munich in KHL is that EHC München has almost no DEL history (they played in 2. Bundesliga until a few years ago). And there are teams like Löwen Frankfurt, Dresdner Eislöwen etc who could easily jump in to get a DEL spot to substitute them. As they currently play in a weak stadium nobody really would miss them (as a DEL franchise).

And most top players from Germany come from Bavaria where they have most hockey teams and fans. If I was KHL I would get a franchise there.

Yes, there is many pros for Red Bull Munchen joining KHL. It seems that DEL would not have so much problem with it (not a case of Adler or other traditional DEL club).

Part about new arena is very important. Can Russian build it?

I would not be suprised if KHL had a plan with Munchen/Red Bull or so. It is definitelly not a coincidence, why does Red Bull Salzburg/Munchen need MHL team if there was not something "more" in the air?

Malmö is a football town. The football team gets 80% of the attention of the media there. It has a great arena, but it's not huge, but that's because Sweden is a low populated country, so what's the point of adding huge arenas?

If KHL wants to add a swedish team, it will be either a team in the 2nd division, a team in SHL that every year is close to being relegated, and/or a team with terrible economy.

Malmö would probably be the best bet since it has been a rather long time since they was anything to count on in SHL, and has now been dwelling for several years in SHL-2.

Stalin Cup? Maybe fetisov or some other international hockey legend would be better than Gagarin, but I dont care, couldn't it be just "The Cup" of KHL.

64 seems fair but...it is socialist. Huge diffs between club. Something like in football. No chance for play off for decades. And how is enjoyable for SKA fans to beat worse team than Kuznya?
64 means a few clubs from all country. No traditional derby and very costly away games. I would like more inter division games. Lev vs Slovan was a highlights of KHL (for Slovakia), but 9-8k away fans is record in hockey i guess.
I just know only hockey scene in Czechia. I would show possibilities of expansion only for CZE. I think Lev is relatively successful project thanks lock out. They had mainly visitors of moderate fans of other clubs from central Bohemia (Sparta, Slavia, Kladno, Litoměřice, Beroun), teens and hockey tourist and expert...and atmosphere was like in a Cathedral. Hard fans of big "S" really hate Lev. Antirussian sentiment still lives, but shrinks in times. Owners bought HC Sparta so i hope they promote it.
As a Troyan virus, project Lev is success, but it depends on will of russian sponsors.

From my point of view candidates in Czechia are Sparta, Pardubice (often sold-out, 10k arena), Brno (always sold-out, reco arena 7k), Ostrava (new arena 10k), Pilsen (city in good economic condition, 7k arena), Slavia (17k arena). In 32 teams alternative 2 clubs is max. In 64 variant 5 clubs is max.

Yup, I like it also. Kellner factor is really huge. How many Slavia football fans dreaming about him. I'd say all of them and I understand that. I'm not a woman, but I'm thinking about him really often also May be... one day in future, we will know more. He is our Rothenberg...

Not that it really matters what the trophy is called, but I like "Gagarin cup". At least that's a name that everyone recognizes anywhere in the world, and it's not bound to just russian hockey. Also "Gagarin Cup" sounds better than "Kharlamov Cup", for example. Stalin Cup vs. Stanley Cup would be awesome though
