Well, Ottawa had to give up something to get Watson. I’d prefer we just sign someone in free agency rather than give up picks for guys like Watson, Brown and Gudbranson though.

Agreed. The price tag is largely insignificant and the team will almost certainly be recouping draft picks at next year's deadline, but there are alternatives available on the market at the moment.

We've got 14M in capspace with Luke Kunin being the only RFA. Signing Luke will put us up to 9F 7D 2G. Bring up Trenin and Tolvanen/Tomasino and we'll have roughly 10M or so to spend on a 13th forward and Hall/UFA Forward.
