Building off of 2019 i think. Pretty sure a lot of people were hoping for a .900+ ops 3rd baseman. Hes good, but i saw 2019 and was hoping for arrenado or bryant, hard not to be a bit disappointed.
I think he's been hurt a lot by the deadened baseball.
I've been watching his baseball-savant box scores and he's been making a lot of outs on batted balls with an xBA of .600 or higher.
There was a Fangraphs article a week or two ago going into the deadened baseball effect and what it showed is that batted balls with a 100-104 mph EV and a 20 degree launch angle are going for significantly more outs and Moncada hits a lot of those.
It wouldn't surprise me at all in the alternate universe where we were playing with the 2019-20 baseballs if Moncada's offense looked a lot like 2019.
The Sox are dead last in the AL in HRs, and 28th in baseball after leading the AL, while being 3rd in Baseball in 2020.
The point is, Moncada falls into the category of disappointing, but nowhere near a bust.
He's going to be a 4-5.5 fWAR player for a long time. That's between above average and all star.
