OT: Dwight Howard vs Zdeno Chara

Chara would get destroyed. This isnt a judgement of hockey players vs basketball player pertaining to fighting skill transfering over for the athlete, more so that Chara is just MUCH smaller than Howard (I've seen a youtube vid of him repping 3 plates on the bench). Im sure someone already posted that disgusting picture of Chara in his undies where he looks like a frigin' skeleton.

A professional athlete being found in or having ties to a local gym isn't exactly out of the ordinary though. Nothing on any formal training on the net, which doesn't mean it hasn't happened, however usually that kind of thing comes out when talking about offseason training regimenes. Especially when the player in question is at or near the top of his sport like Wade.

Has anyone ever even seen the guy throw a punch though?

lol is it ME or did I think that was Dwight and SPANO of the Islanders. LOL

Fact is Howard has 2" and 20lbs of what seems to be pure muscle on Chara. When your taller and you outweigh someone that really says something not to mention Howards insane muscle development.

Don't see how people can say Howard based on his size and strength advantage. Those attributes don't necessarily mean the guy can fight. Chara has fought monsters, on skates, and done well.

I take Chara every time.

More like 10 lbs and no inches, see my post on NBA heights on the previous page. He does have a much more developed upper body than Chara, but a less developed lower body IMO. No doubt that he has most of the physical advantages (reach, quickness, upper body strength), but technique is extremely important too, and Chara is a tough mofo who knows how to fight, he can throw bombs and he can wrestle. I would definitely put my money on Chara in a fight.

Howard would have to keep with NBA standards which every good play deserves a celebration. Once he got his first punch in, he would look to the crowd and do some stupid dance, at which time Chara would lay him out.

Whats that, 300lbs? Will Smith can do 385lbs, Tiger Woods can do 300lbs. So they can fight?

What you can bench has nothing to do with how you'll fare in a fight.

And then there's the fact that Chara can press over 300lbs as well.

Chara eventually learned to master his own body, while also adding to his strength (today he can bench press over 300 lbs)

And this was back in his Sens days. He's only gotten stronger.

I was kinda thinking this too. I have a family member who just joined the 500lb club, can't even touch his hands behind his back, and I don't think he'd be an especially good fighter.

As far as Will Smith is concerned, he might not be a terrible fighter. After all, West Philidelphia born and raised. And he did do some boxing training for Ali. And I am not talking about Hollywood training, I mean he actually did some extensive, hardcore boxing training. Who knows.

I cannot help but shake my head at these comments about how Howard has probably never been in a fight. I dunno about folks on here, but most of the guys I know in real life have been in a few fights in their day. That`s just what men do. I would not call myself a fighter at all, but I have been in quite a few fights growing up, be it in hockey, high school, or just being a dumb kid out in the street. I would not be surprised to find that Howard has had a couple fights in his day.

Still, I take Chara in this purely because he is a mean SOB. Seeing him ragdoll a prime Bryan McCabe was impressive. I do not care what kind of shape Howard is in, it is no small feat to toss a 230 pound man around like a kitten.

There's a difference when it comes to getting in a few fights, and being trained. There really is no way to know who beats who in a scrap honestly unless you know all the details and none of us do.

We know Chara has martial arts training, and wrestling training. Striking and ground. We don't know what kind of training Howard has. We know both are roughly the same size, built like brick **** houses, and strong as a horse.

Until we know the finer details, not likely, this thread and most like it are simply exercises in futility. Size doesn't matter, Royce Gracie proved that many many times.

I did not at any point reference Howards formal training or lack thereof. I was commenting on the assumption that he has never been in a fight. Period.

And of course these threads are pointless. Everything about this site is pointless. But people love to speculate. If you do not, avoid the thread.

I'm probably one of the very few, and I'm taking about VERY FEW basketball fans on this site. I'm still taking Chara. Dwight Howard seems like too much of nice person to fight anyways.

So essentially what you're saying is all fighting threads should basically amount to who is bigger, who can lift more weights, and who is male (cause fighting is just what us dudes do)?

And no, "these threads" aren't always pointless, nor is every discussion on this site. Threads and discussions that meet the exact criteria of this one however are (that criteria being major facts are missing). We know one guys is trained, we don't know anything along those lines about the other. Saying the other will based on his size, how much he can bench press, and by the fact that he most likely got in a fight in grade 5 is pretty silly.

That's all.

Hard to say, for as big and strong as basketball players are, most of them don't have much experience fighting. We've seen Chara go and he's also an excellent wrestler. I'd bet on Chara.

Now Chara vs someone who is actually gully, like Anthony Mason, Rick Mahorn, et al, that might be a different story.

Charas dad was an Olympic wrestler.

My money would be on Chara just in ability to use his weight and momentum...but then again who here has seen D scrap... I bet he could throw em too...

I don't buy MMA PPVs but I would gladly fork out to see this one..

Chara doesn't fight, he tries to hug people then use his size to fall on them. That wouldn't work with Superman. Howard would kill Chara.

The guys that get in fights with Chara are usually at least 4-5 inches shorter and have a much lower center of gravity. Chara is almost forced to hug them so they won't flip him on his back.

Against a taller opponent I'd expect Chara to look less awkward. And if he were to get in close to Howard and turn him backwards... *boom* Howard would probably be knocked out by falling 7 feet to the ground.

Had no idea but I guess if you're training to look like Ali you'd have to be pretty strong.
