I think management will purposely stay away from Lehner and Markstrom, as those two are likely looking for a larger role than the Devils would want to give them. If we signed one of them, Blackwood probably wouldn’t be the clear cut starter and I don’t think they would wanna sign with us to be Blackwood’s backup or even 1b.who do you want the Devils to sign in goal? Obviously Lehner or Markstrom probably are pipe dreams, but then you have Khudobin or Talbot who might not be bad
Khudobin or Talbot could be a gamble or they could work out just the same. So I would be fine with signing them or even going with Greiss. And if they don’t work out, I would never criticize Fitz for signing them, as it’s a roll of the dice anyway. As long as we don’t sign them to longer term deals.
We could probably get Talbot on a one year deal, but Khudobin and maybe even Greiss could get two year deals.
I would absolutely stay away from Elliott, as he isn’t good anywhere that isn’t St. Louis and he’s already 35 and hasn’t had recent success. Dell has been a decent backup in San Jose, but I think he’s better served to backup someone that’s more established than Blackwood. I wouldn’t trust him for 30 games.
I would also absolutely stay away from all the old guys like Miller, Anderson, Smith. Good chance they’re all about ready to retire.
