For starters, they hired Willie Desjardins at all. He was a joke of a coach with the Canucks. Their playoff berth with him was not because of him. Desjardins was so bad, hot mic's picked up one of the broadcast crew having a conversation about how much of a joke he was during what they thought was a commercial break. What did the Kings do that makes you think they were tanking?
The Kings season was already lost, barring some miracle like the Blues had earlier this year with Jordan Binnington coming up and since the current Kings squad is not nearly as good as the current Blues squad, that wasn't going to happen. So once the season was lost, their idea was to bring in Willie Desjardins.
They played Jonathan Quick like he was on a Conn Smythe tear when he was healthy enough to be active on the roster. They didn't play him quite like 1998-2010 Marty Brodeur, but they played him like they actually needed him to play so many games in order to make the playoffs, but he played like a reanimated corpse this year. And they kept throwing him out there.
